Marsh McLennan

AI Engineer

Dublin - Charlotte Full time

Company:

Marsh

Description:

What can you expect?

Marsh is a global leader in insurance broking and risk management, serving clients in over 130 countries. The AI Center of Excellence is a newly formed team with a singular mission: get emerging AI capabilities into the hands of Marsh engineers and business teams as fast as the technology landscape moves.

We're looking for an AI Engineer who wants to live on the cutting edge of AI. You'll be the person who picks up preview-stage technologies — new LLM approaches, memory systems, agentic deployment frameworks, guardrails, Model Context Protocol (MCP) tooling — runs rapid proofs-of-concept and turns the successful ones into production-ready capabilities that the rest of Marsh can adopt.

This is an individual contributor role, but you'll become the recognised subject-matter expert in one or more AI technology areas. That means coaching your peers in the AI CoE, presenting internally, and — critically — ensuring that both human engineers and autonomous AI coding agents across the enterprise are configured to use these technologies correctly and select them ahead of alternatives.

We will count on you to:

  • Run focused proofs-of-concept — typically one or two at a time — to evaluate emerging AI technologies against real Marsh use cases, moving from experiment to recommendation at speed
  • Select and recommend technologies for adoption, producing clear guidance on when and why to use them
  • Productionise chosen capabilities with repeatable, infrastructure-as-code deployment patterns using Crossplane across AWS, Azure, and other hyperscaler clouds, then hand operational ownership to the appropriate platform teams
  • Direct AI coding agents (GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Cursor, and others) — ensuring they are technically configured to leverage new technologies, select them appropriately, and follow Marsh standards
  • Become a subject-matter expert in one or more AI technology domains (e.g. memory and retrieval, agent orchestration, guardrails and safety, MCP tooling) and coach peers across Marsh on those topics
  • Engage with business units across Marsh through architecture forums, dev councils, and other channels to understand needs and feed requirements back into the PoC pipeline
  • Share knowledge internally through blog posts, demos, and presentations — keeping the wider engineering community informed about what's coming and what's ready

What you need to have:

  • Strong software engineering experience in Python and/or TypeScript, with a track record of shipping production systems — not just prototypes
  • Hands-on experience with AI engineering: integrating, deploying, instrumenting, and operating LLM-based systems (prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation, function calling, agent frameworks, evaluation, observability)
  • Experience writing infrastructure-as-code for cloud deployments (Crossplane preferred; Terraform, Pulumi, or CDK experience transfers well)
  • Comfort working across multiple cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) rather than deep specialism in one
  • Strong intellectual curiosity and high standards — you actively track emerging technology, learn quickly, and care about doing excellent work
  • The ability to evaluate a new technology quickly and form a clear recommendation
  • Excellent communication skills, able to explain a complex technical decision to both engineers and non-technical stakeholders

What makes you stand out:

  • Breadth of programming language experience beyond Python/TypeScript — Rust, Go, or others that demonstrate curiosity and range
  • Familiarity with Model Context Protocol (MCP) — building or consuming MCP servers and tools
  • Experience with Crossplane or Kubernetes-based infrastructure management
  • Exposure to AI safety and guardrails frameworks (content filtering, prompt injection defence, output validation)
  • Experience configuring or extending AI coding assistants (custom instructions, tool integration, workspace configuration)
  • Background in fine-tuning or adapting foundation models

What makes this role different:

  • You'll use things before anyone else. Preview APIs, beta frameworks, technologies that don't have Stack Overflow answers yet.
  • You'll shape technical direction. Your PoC outcomes and recommendations directly influence which technologies Marsh adopts across the enterprise.
  • You'll onboard humans and machines. You'll ensure that AI coding agents across the organisation are configured to use the right tools in the right way.
  • You'll be one of the first members of the AI CoE. You'll help shape ways of working, team culture, and technical standards as the team grows.
  • You'll have the tools you need. Access to AI models, tools, tokens, and broader professional development opportunities.

Why join our team:

  • We help you be your best through professional development opportunities, interesting work and supportive leaders.
  • We foster a vibrant and inclusive culture where you can collaborate with talented colleagues to create new solutions and have impact for colleagues, clients and communities.
  • Our scale enables us to provide a range of career opportunities.
