Agile Product Owner Lead Analyst

The Data Product Owner is responsible for the Product’s health and development. The product owner delivers the product roadmap to deliver business value. The agile delivery methods of Cigna International Health are used to do this. The product owner combines multiple perspectives to deliver in a balanced and effective manner. These include the needs of: a) the product’s customers, b) data & analytics, c) operations, d) technology, and e) regulation. This product owner role will focus on Common Document Intake 

Common Document Intake is a vision for an automation platform in Cigna International Health. It will cover various forms of unstructured data, from documents to phone calls. It will offer various automation techniques, ranging from Generative AI to reinforcement learning to known answers, in a multi-geographic cloud-based micro-services approach. This is a marquee role in Cigna International Health, and we are seeking a top tier product owner to lead us forward.

  

The Data Product Owner is responsible for understanding the product’s customers deeply and must synthesize information from multiple sources to achieve this. The product owner must exercise considerable creativity, foresight, and judgment in conceiving, planning, and delivering on the product roadmap, while demonstrating intellectual horsepower and attention to detail. The ideal candidate thus possesses a broad base of skills and knowledge spanning the product’s customers, data & analytics, operations, technology, regulation, and agile delivery methods. The product owner will collaborate with the product manager to set the product’s objectives, communicate them, and establish roadmaps to achieve them in ways that optimize delivery of business value. 

  

The Data Product Owner leads a team to deliver, which typically includes a scrum master, data scientists, and engineers. The product owner decomposes Features into User Stories for their team, setting Acceptance Criteria. The product owner prioritizes User Stories and sequences their delivery within each iteration and increment to optimize delivery of business value, giving context on the reasons for their choices to the team, and taking feedback to adjust as appropriate 

 

The Data Product Owner works with their team to assess the best tool or tools for each Feature and User Story. The product owner will consider a range of data and technology solutions, making assessments about the value and tradeoffs of each approach across multiple dimensions. These dimensions include business value, delivery speed, data considerations, operational considerations, technical considerations, and regulatory considerations.  

 

The Data Product Owner works with the team to understand dependencies for the User Stories, and communicates these to the release train, contributing to possible cross-train solutions. The product owner partners with their customers, change readiness staff, and others as needed, to ensure business readiness, before changes are released to the product’s customers. 

  

Responsibilities: 

  

- Delivers the product’s objectives using Cigna International Health’s agile delivery methods. 

- Demonstrates attention to detail and intellectual horsepower throughout, to give clarity and deliver effectively. 

- Breaks down the product’s objectives into User Stories with Acceptance Criteria. Has User Stories ready in the Product Backlog. 

- Applies an economic lens and a scientific mindset to break down work and plan deliveries that deliver business value, aligned with the product’s objectives. 

- Combines perspectives from the product’s customers, data & analytics, operations, technology, and regulation to deliver balanced and effective solutions, in collaboration with the Product Manager. 

- Has courage to move forward but is not over-confident. Demonstrates creativity when delivering the product’s objectives. Contributes to product discovery techniques, in collaboration with the Product Manager. 

- Considers the broader implications of the product’s deliveries to the release train and the organization, and the implications of other deliveries on the product, in collaboration with the Release Train Engineer and Product Manager. 

- Considers a range of data and technology solutions, making assessments about the value and tradeoffs of each approach across multiple dimensions including business value, delivery speed, technical considerations, and regulatory considerations. 

- Communicates context about the product and its objectives to both team members and the product’s stakeholders, improving their judgment and their ability to give feedback.  

- Communicates with the team members, the product’s stakeholders, the release train, and the portfolio team throughout the delivery, in partnership with the Product Manager. Leverages shared materials, while tailoring the approach and level of detail to each audience, as appropriate. 

  

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree. 

  • Strong English language skills. 

  • Some degree of flexibility to work with stakeholders across multiple time zones. 

  

  • 5+ years of work experience in cross-functional environments with multiple perspectives. 

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.  

  • Experience in product ownership or management.  

  • Experience with agile delivery methods. 

  

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Technical competence in data analysis, data pipelines, APIs, machine learning, and/or generative AI, and/or the regulation thereof. 

  • Background in healthcare, financial services, or other industries with unstructured data in regulated environments.
