Job Summary

The Agency banking sales champion is a high-impact field role focused on the aggressive expansion and optimization of our agent banking network. Responsible for identifying high potential locations, recruiting top tier agents, and ensuring they are fully equipped and compliant to drive transaction volumes.

Job Description

Agent Network Growth & Management

70% of the total time

·       Proactively identify, evaluate, and recruit prospective agents across all strategic and high-potential locations in alignment with the approved plan and network expansion targets.

·       Conduct comprehensive due diligence on agent applications, ensuring full compliance with established approval, KYC, and onboarding procedures.

·       Ensure all appointed agents have valid agency banking agreements in place and provide end-to-end support during contract execution and documentation.

·       Coordinate the timely distribution of tools of trade to agents, including transaction materials, branding assets, and other operational requirements.

·       Build and maintain strong, productive relationships with agents, addressing complaints, disputes, and operational challenges promptly in line with agreed Service Level Agreements (SLAs).

·       Perform routine agent monitoring through data reviews and on-site visits to ensure operational efficiency, adherence to policies, and regulatory compliance.

·       Track and analyze agent performance metrics, including transaction volumes, revenue contribution, activation levels, and growth trends, and provide actionable recommendations for performance improvement.

·       Prepare and submit structured reports on agent monitoring outcomes, performance insights, and market intelligence to Head Office to support informed decision-making.

·       Actively manage agent dormancy to ensure inactive agents remain within the minimum agreed threshold for the assigned portfolio, implementing reactivation strategies where necessary.

·       Drive timely activation of newly onboarded agents, ensuring they achieve minimum agreed activity and transaction thresholds within defined onboarding timelines

Governance and Control

20% of the total Time

·       Ensure full agent compliance with the bank’s policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements, including KYC, AML, and CFT guidelines.

·       Enforce adherence to internal and external branding standards, ensuring agents maintain approved tariff guides and Absa Wakala signage for optimal brand visibility and customer trust.

·       Continuously monitor agent transactions to detect suspicious, unusual, or fraudulent activity and ensure timely investigation, escalation, and resolution in line with established protocols.

·       Conduct regular agent audits, reviews, and compliance checks to confirm transactions are processed accurately and in accordance with approved processes, addressing deviations promptly

·       In collaboration with head of Agency Banking, identifying potential operational risks and implementing effective strategies to mitigate, ensuring the continuous improvement of processes and minimizing disruptions to operations.

 

Product Training

10% of the total Time

·       Conduct initial onboarding and refresher training for newly approved and existing agents on Absa Bank products, services, systems, and operational processes to enable effective service delivery.

·       Ensure agents and their staff are trained in governance, compliance, fraud prevention, AML, KYC, and best practices in agency banking operations.

·       Coordinate and ensure completion, collection, and submission of agency banking training attestations to relevant stakeholders as formal evidence of training and regulatory compliance.

·       Provide ongoing post-training support and guidance to address knowledge gaps and reinforce compliance standards.

Risk and Control Objective

·       Regularly assess and update the risk profile of individual agents based on transaction volumes, geographic location, historical performance, and observed behavior.

·       Identify, assess, and report risks associated with agency banking operations, including fraud, operational failures, liquidity challenges, and financial mismanagement.

·       Continuously monitor emerging and evolving risks within the agent network and recommend proactive control enhancements.

·       Collaborate with Agency Banking stakeholders, Risk, Compliance, and Operations teams to address issues highlighted in KRIs reports and the Agency Banking Risk Register.
