Job Summary: You will serve as a AEROSPACE ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN in the AERONAUTICS & ASTRONAUTICS DEPT of NAVAL POSTGRADUATE SCHOOL.

Major Duties:

  • You will provide technical support to aerospace engineers and scientists in the design, development, testing, evaluation, and maintenance of aerospace systems and equipment.
  • You will assist engineers in conducting tests and experiments on aerospace systems, components, and materials using established procedures and protocols.
  • You will set up, operate, and maintain laboratory, field, or test equipment used in aerospace research and development.
  • You will collect, record, and analyze test data; prepare charts, graphs, and summary reports for engineering review.
  • You will perform routine inspections, troubleshooting, and maintenance of aerospace systems and support equipment.
  • You will interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical manuals to support fabrication, modification, or repair activities.
  • You will support the integration and testing of subsystems, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.
  • You will document test procedures, results, and technical findings in accordance with organizational and regulatory requirements.
  • You will use computer-based tools and software for data acquisition, analysis, and reporting.
  • You will ensure adherence to safety protocols, environmental regulations, and quality assurance practices.

Qualifications: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Serving as engineering tech with responsibility for ensuring quality experimental research for the department. 2) Providing coordination with machine shop, model makers electronic techs, and other departments as mission dictates applying functional knowledge with test methods, instrumentation, and data collection techniques used in aerospace environments; 3) Serving as an aeronautical/mechanical engineering specialist with overall responsibilities for the operation and maintenance of and modification to existing testing facilities and for the installation of new experimental apparatus at TPL and GDL, 4) Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, schematics, and technical documentation while utilizing mechanical, electrical, or avionics systems and components. Physical Demands Work may involve standing, walking, bending, lifting equipment (up to 40 pounds), and working in laboratory, hangar, or field environments. Use of personal protective equipment may be required. Work Environment The work is performed in a combination of office, laboratory, and field settings. The technician may be exposed to noise, moving machinery, hazardous materials, or varying weather conditions, depending on assignment.
