What does a successful Java Angular Tech Advisor do at Fiserv?

We are looking for a hands-on Java Angular Tech Advisor who designs robust solutions, drives technical direction, mentors engineers, and continues to contribute code. You will build and maintain scalable, secure back-end services and responsive front-end applications, lead design discussions and code reviews, shape CI/CD and observability practices, and use AI-enabled developer tools responsibly to increase team productivity.

What will you do:

• Lead solution and system design for features and services, producing clear architecture diagrams, design documents and trade-off analyses.
• Develop and maintain Java-based microservices and standalone Spring Boot applications; make high-impact contributions to codebase.
• Build and enhance Angular (v8+) front-end components using TypeScript with strong OOP practices and attention to code quality and maintainability.
• Define, enforce coding standards, best practices and design patterns across the team.
• Perform code reviews in GitLab; ensure maintainable, secure and testable.
• Mentor, grow junior engineers through pairing, technical coaching, structured feedback.
• Drive automated testing standards and contribute to end-to-end test strategy.
• Own and improve CI/CD pipelines and release practices, automate security gates.
• Improve observability using Splunk or equivalent; lead root-cause analysis.
• Agile SDLC: lead or participate in ceremonies and keep Scrum/Kanban boards up to date.
• Collaborate across product, QA and operations teams, present technical ideas.

What you will need to have:

• 10 + years of software development experience with strong Java expertise (Java 17+).
• Proven experience leading technical designs and delivering complex systems.
• Strong Spring framework experience (Spring Boot 2.x, Spring Web MVC, Spring AOP).
• Solid front-end experience with Angular (v8+) and TypeScript; strong OOP practices applied to JavaScript/TypeScript.
• Experience with JPA/Hibernate and relational databases (Oracle 13 or PostgreSQL).
• Hands-on experience with RESTful and SOAP web services, XML/XSD/JAXB.
• Automated testing experience: jUnit, Mockito and a test-first mindset.
• Familiar with Git (GitLab), Maven, Nexus, Jenkins and CI/CD best practices.
• Experience with observability/logging tools e.g. Splunk & applying them to monitoring.
• Demonstrated mentoring & code review experience; ability to give technical feedback.
• Strong system design, problem-solving and documentation skills.
• Team-oriented with strong collaboration and stakeholder communication skills.
• Willingness to participate in on-call rotation and lead incident response when needed.

AI-enabled developer skills:

• Familiarity with developer AI assistants (for example, GitHub Copilot or equivalent) and how to use them safely and effectively in day-to-day work.
• Generate or prototype code snippets and unit tests to speed development.
• Draft documentation, API outlines and implementation notes.
• Create or refine queries, regular expressions, and configuration snippets.
