Job Summary
Provide care to children from birth through young adult with an in-depth knowledge and experience in pediatric health care including well child care and prevention/management of common pediatric acute illnesses and chronic conditions. This care is provided to support optimal health of children within the context of their family, community, and environmental setting.
Essential Functions
- Perform comprehensive histories and physical exams for well and acute visits, identifies normal and abnormal findings, including physical, cognitive and psychosocial status.
- Order, perform, and interpret screening and diagnostic procedures and tests, and appropriately communicates and documents information.
- Develop pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical treatment plans.
- Monitor effectiveness of plan of care.
- Educate patients on disease and treatment plans. Educates, counsels, and assists patients and families regarding current health problems, health maintenance activities and preventive behaviors.
- Perform procedures as trained and appropriately credentialed.
- Document within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and completes other necessary documents within a timely manner.
- Collaborate and/or consults with physicians and other health care providers as appropriate as part of the care team.
- Participates in organizational initiatives including the development, maintenance and support of the strategic direction of Children’s Wisconsin. Actively participates in the clinical quality and safety efforts of the department or the organization.
- Responsible for understanding and adhering to the Children’s Organizational Code of Ethics and for ensuring that personal actions, and the actions of employees supervised, comply with the policies, regulations and laws applicable to Children's business.
Education
- Master's Degree or higher in Nursing for Advanced Practice Nurse required
- Bachelor's Degree or higher in Physician Assistant Studies for Physician Assistant required
Experience
- New graduates considered required
- Previous APP, pediatrics, nursing, or primary care experience preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Critical thinking skills and analytical abilities to address complex patient care problems, administrative problems and research issues.
- Interpersonal and communication skills which frequently involve collaborating with peers and supervisors, physicians, and administrators on policy and procedural issues.
Licenses and Certifications
- BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/National Safety Council required

- PA-Certified Physician Assistant - National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants
- AANP-Certified Family Nurse Practitioner - American Academy of Nurse Practitioner Certification Board
