Work Schedule: Rotating shifts 6p-6a; 7p-7a; 9a-9p Casual/PRN employees work on an ‘as needed’ basis to meet the needs of the business.  Work days/hours will often vary from week to week.

Treats and evaluates patients under the authorization of the collaborating physician.

Responsibilities:

Essential Job Functions

Performs all functions and procedures of Hospitalist physicians under general direction by collaborating physician.

Provides care for Hospital patients in a Hospital setting by utilizing the processes of assessment and diagnosis of health status, development and implementation of treatment plans and follow-up and evaluation plans of patient outcomes.

Interprets and evaluates patient data as authorized by collaborating physician.

Requests diagnostic procedures as indicated by pertinent data and patient medical status.

Provides instructions and guidance regarding medical matters to patients.

Completes detailed and accurate patient histories and reviews patient records to develop comprehensive plan of care.

Performs patient care to include evaluation and management services and minor therapeutic procedures as per Hospital policies and congruent with Medicare guidelines.

Performs patient physical exam to ensure patient health by obtaining patient medical history, checking vital signs, performing tests relevant to patient condition and recording findings.

Provides monitoring and continuity of care between physician visits.

Assists in facilitating quality patient care according to the standards of Hospital.

Performs telephone triage to determine patient special needs by recording patient condition, providing appropriate consultation and scheduling appointments when needed.

Prepares prescription orders/inquiries/renewals to facilitate patient care by writing orders for drugs and controlled substances and relaying information to pharmacy.

Administers medication and immunizations to ensure patient health by injection, inhalation or oral methods.

Provides patient and family education regarding proper use of medication and health/illness prevention to ensure adequate knowledge/awareness by interviewing and advising specifically to patient needs and recommending appropriate community resources.

Develops preliminary diagnosis to prescribe diagnostic and therapeutic procedures by ordering appropriate laboratory tests, interpreting data and utilizing principles of prevention.

At the direction of the physician, provides patient and family education regarding proper use of medication and health/illness prevention to ensure adequate knowledge /awareness and recommending appropriate community resources.

Provides appropriate care specific to the age of the patient to ensure understanding and comfort level of treatment as outlined in the "Age Specific Criteria".

Job Requirements

Education

  • Graduation from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, valid state license and certification as Nurse Practitioner (APRN).


Experience

  • Two years previous Nurse Practitioner experience required, preferable in a hospital.


License/Certifications

  • Nurse Practitioner (APRN.NP.NE or ARNP.IA) license required in the state working without restrictions.
  • Current valid Registered Nurse (RN) License, valid compact multistate license or temporary permit while awaiting licensure required.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred at time of hire, required within 3 months of hire.
  • Maintain current American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required.
