Scope of Position 

The Advanced Practice Patient Safety and Quality role conducts patient safety event reviews and supports quality action planning for Advanced Practice Providers (APPs). This role also supports ongoing professional practice evaluation. In collaboration with the APP Patient Safety and Quality Lead, APP Associate Director of Patient Safety and Quality, APP managers, and multidisciplinary teams, this role ensures patient safety events, including near misses and adverse outcomes, are identified, reported, reviewed, and appropriately followed up.

The Advanced Practice Patient Safety and Quality supports all phases of the review process, including initial assessment, fact-finding, root cause analysis, documentation, peer review coordination, and event determination. This role ensures timely investigations, development and implementation of action plans, and integration of quality improvement measures.

The Advanced Practice Safety and Quality role participates as a member of hospital and health system committees related to clinical quality and patient safety, collaborating with APP leadership and multidisciplinary teams to support system-level action plans in response to safety events.

This role is also responsible for supporting the Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation (OPPE) process for APPs, including the collection, analysis, and reporting of clinical performance data to ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements.

Additionally, this role works with advanced practice leadership and education teams to support onboarding, ongoing education, and professional development, with an emphasis on patient safety and quality standards.

Position Summary

The Advanced Practice Patient Safety and Quality role conducts the review of patient safety events and supports quality improvement for Advanced Practice Providers (APPs). This role works with APP leadership and multidisciplinary teams to ensure safety events are properly identified, reported, reviewed, and followed up. Responsibilities include review and support of all phases of patient safety events including arranging peer review, ensuring timely investigations, communication with APPs and APP leaders, and assisting in development of action plans. This role also participates in relevant committees, supports the OPPE process for APPs, and supports onboarding and education efforts, all while promoting a culture of safety, transparency, and continuous improvement.

Minimum Qualifications

Licensed Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the State of Ohio with national certification as an advanced practice provider with a minimum of a master’s degree with preference for doctoral degree OR Physician Assistant- Certified with a minimum of a Master of Physician Assistant Science and license as a Physician Assistant in the State of Ohio. Obtain and maintain hospital credentials to practice at the medical centers. At least two years of APP experience with proven experience in healthcare quality improvement, patient safety initiatives, and/or formal or informal clinical leadership roles preferred.  

Master's of Science Degree in Nursing with APRN Certification or Master's with PA-C or Master's in Nursing with APRN-CNS (Clinical Nurse Specialist) Certification required. 0 years of relevant experience required. 0-2 years of relevant experience preferred.
