Job Summary: About the Position: This position is located at Naval Hospital, Directorate of Surgery, OB/GYN, Camp Pendleton, CA. Advance in Hire may be authorized. This is available for those candidates who are new to Federal service. Advance Leave Accrual may be authorized. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation

Major Duties:

  • Provision of full-scope gynecologic services such as well women exams, contraceptive care, preventative health screenings, and family planning.
  • Collaborates with a variety of health providers such as obstetricians, pediatrics anesthesiology, and/or nursing staff.
  • Utilizing electronic health records such as MHS Genesis for documentation, order entry, and/or care coordination.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, evidence-based practice implementation, or clinical protocol development.
  • Independent management of low- and moderate-risk intrapartum patients performing ongoing assessment of maternal and fetal status, labor progress, and interventions.
  • Identifies and treats postpartum complications such as pain, urological complaints, bleeding abnormalities, hormonal dysfunction and infections.
  • Performs initial and ongoing risk assessments, interprets diagnostic data and laboratory results, and manages common obstetric complications.
  • Develops and provides patient-centered education and counseling regarding the antepartum course, preventative health, and self-care.

Basic Requirement for Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Midwife): Degree: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. AND Degree for Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Positions: A graduate or higher level degree in nursing from an accredited educational program in Midwifery. OR Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. AND Licensure: Applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination and possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. In addition, applicants must possess licensure or registration by a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States in Midwifery. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must meet the qualification requirements listed below: Experience: At least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-11 grade level). Professional Nursing Experience is defined as: One year of professional experience performing physical exams on obstetric or gynecologic patients, ordering or interpreting lab results and providing postpartum care. Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone - no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
