Job Summary: The Advanced Medical Support Assistant (AMSA) position serves as a member of the Community Care Consult team working collaboratively with other members of expanded health care teams to provide a robust interdisciplinary approach to care.
Major Duties:
Qualifications: Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English Language Proficiency: MSAs must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, part II, chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3j Experience and Education: (1) Experience. Six months experience of clerical, office, customer service, or other administrative work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position; OR, (2) Education. One year above high school; OR, (3) Experience/Education Combination: Equivalent combination of experience and education are qualifying for entry level for which both education and experience are acceptable. Grade Determinations: GS-06 Advanced Medical Support Assistant: Experience: You must have at least 1 year of experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level. Examples of this includes, but is not limited to: answering phones, greeting patients, relaying messages to appropriate staff inside or outside of the unit, scheduling appointments, canceling appointment, re-scheduling appointments, entering no-show information, monitoring appointment requests from multiple electronic sources, verifying and updating demographics and insurance information when patients check-in for appointments, and interpreting and verifying provider orders. Preferred Experience: 2-3 years of administrative and/or clinical experience Basic understanding of organization and administration of multifaceted health care delivery systems Excellent customer service and communication skills Ability to schedule and coordinate appointments Demonstrates dependability and flexibility Prior VA experience Evidence of self direction Reference: For more information on this qualification standard, please visit https://www.va.gov/ohrm/QualificationStandards/.
