Raytheon’s Technology organization is seeking a passionate and experienced Senior Principal Systems Engineer to perform in the role of Advanced Autonomous Unmanned Lead Systems Engineer. This role will focus on the development of next-generation autonomous systems within an energetic multi-disciplinary team working collaboratively with internal and external customers to develop novel solutions for autonomous vehicle applications across multiple domains. Our team pushes the boundaries of innovation and creativity to establish next-generation mission solutions from system-level up to campaign level operations.
This position is for the Lead Systems Engineer role within the Collaborative Mission Autonomy team, responsible for leading the development and integration of autonomous vehicle systems across multiple domains including drones, ground vehicles, and aerial systems. The role involves managing complex technical projects from concept through deployment, communicating with cross-functional teams consisting of various engineering disciplines including systems, software, electrical, mechanical, and test engineers, ensuring alignment with program objectives, technical requirements, cost, and schedule constraints, and ensuring successful delivery of mission-critical autonomous systems.
This is an onsite role located in Mckinney, TX.
What You Will Do
Plan, manage, and report on budget and schedule performance, including responsibility for Earned Value Management (EVM), alignment with the Integrated Master Schedule (IMS), and coordination with program planning and finance teams.
Lead cross-functional engineering teams through the full product development life cycle—from concept and requirements definition to design, integration, test, and fielding—ensuring technical, cost, and schedule objectives are met.
Shape the system architecture and design strategy, using inputs from engineering disciplines to make informed decisions that ensure design compliance, performance, and alignment with customer mission needs.
Maintain regular communication with Raytheon leadership, reporting program status, accomplishments, challenges, and resource needs, while driving collaboration and alignment across all technical sub-teams.
Partner closely with functions across the enterprise—including Engineering, Operations, Mission Assurance, and Global Supply Chain—to ensure cross-functional integration and execution of the product development plan.
Mentor and support engineering team members, facilitating knowledge sharing, technical decision-making, and engagement of Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to resolve complex issues.
Apply deep experience in system-level design, integration, and verification, leading technical reviews, managing risk, and ensuring traceability and compliance throughout the engineering development process.
Qualifications You Must Have
Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and 10 years of relevant experience OR an Advanced degree and 7 years of relevant experience
Experience as a Principal Investigator (PI), Technical Lead, Systems Architect or System Design.
Experience using standard data languages and tools (C/C++, Python, etc.)
Experience managing and/or leading cross-disciplined teams in a technical capacity using program management tools such as Earned Value Management System (EVMS), Integrated Master Plan (IMP), Integrated Master Schedule (IMS), and/or Risk and Opportunity Management to identify issues and develop recommended courses of action to management.
The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Qualifications We Prefer
Master's degree in Systems Engineering or related discipline
Experience with leading development across multiple programs and/or company sites
Experience with Agile development
Strong demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills
Excellent presentation and proposal skills
Ability to manage multiple and competing priorities
Knowledge of DevOps, Git, databases, Linux/UNIX
Experience with integration and testing of hardware/software on unmanned systems UxS
Experience with ROS (Robot Operating System) or similar middleware platforms
Knowledge of machine learning frameworks and AI integration in autonomous systems
Experience with autonomous vehicle technologies (drones, ground vehicles, aerial systems)

The salary range for this role is 132,400 USD - 251,600 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
