An Adult Program Manager position is available with the Fort Worth Public Library. Under the leadership of the Lifelong Learning Manager, the Adult Program Manager plans, coordinates, and directs the development and implementation of adult programs and services across all twenty branches. The selected candidate will play a pivotal role in the continued development of the Fort Worth Public Library’s innovative Lifelong Learning Division and serve in a managerial capacity.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Master’s degree from an ALA accredited college or university with major course work in library and information sciences and four years of responsible professional library experience, including two years of administrative and/or lead supervisory experience.

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of current trends and best practices in library services to adults and adult education in various settings,
  • High level of comfort with program evaluation and outcome-based planning and evaluation.
  • Ability to develop high quality programming, curriculum, and supporting materials.
  • Ability to communicate with customers in Spanish.
  • Experience leading staff development initiatives.
  • Experience building sustainable community relationships.
  • Experience leading by influence.

The Adult Program Manager’s job responsibilities include: 

  • Championing the Library’s strategic goals and initiatives with the system’s mission, vision and core values in mind.
  • Providing leadership and support for staff who plan and implement adult programs at all Library locations, including identifying and vetting potential presenters and coordinating program evaluation.
  • Developing and providing ongoing professional development opportunities for adult-serving staff throughout the system.
  • Cultivating community relationships and official partnerships and participates in planning and coordinating library programs and services with other community institutions and agencies; promotes the use of system resources and services through communication with community agencies, organizations, and groups.
  • Defining, establishing, and reinforcing programming quality standards across the system.
  • Utilizing outcome-based planning and evaluation for program planning.
  • Encouraging staff to be forward-thinking, try new ideas, experiment and be willing to fail, and to embrace change. 

 Working Conditions and Physical Demand

Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling and lifting.

Light Work – Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly having to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for the Sedentary Work category and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated Light Work.
