Adjunct Library Applications Developer

Grand Valley State University (GVSU) Libraries are seeking candidates for an entry level part-time (29 hours) Adjunct Library Applications Developer. The Adjunct Library Applications Developer will report to the Head of Systems and Discovery and be located on the Valley Campus in Allendale, MI.

Salary: $38.46 per hour

There are no benefits associated with this position.

The successful candidate will be a collaborative and detail-oriented developer who will support and enhance web-based library systems and applications. This role maintains existing projects, develops new functionality, and partners closely with library stakeholders to deliver accessible, user-centered technical solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and enhance existing applications by troubleshooting issues and adding new features as needed
  • Develop, implement, and modify custom web-based applications that integrate with relational databases and APIs
  • Collaborate with library colleagues to customize and improve systems and websites
  • Work with leadership to recommend project timelines, prioritize work, and align efforts with organizational goals
  • Engage with stakeholders to identify requirements, define project outcomes, and deliver effective solutions
  • Create and maintain clear project documentation
  • Lead testing efforts to ensure accessibility, functionality, and user expectations are met
  • Apply emerging coding standards and development best practices

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Experience designing, developing, and supporting database-driven applications.
  • Working knowledge of Python, PHP
  • Working knowledge of relational databases and Structured Query Language (SQL)
  • Proficiency with HTML and CSS
  • Proficiency with Git
  • Demonstrated ability to interact and communicate, verbally and in writing, with respect and empathy to accomplish shared goals.
  • Commitment to inclusion, equity, and accessibility to support service to a diverse population.
  • Ability to identify and approach new challenges in a timely manner.
  • Strong time management skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information science, or related field
  • Working knowledge of current WCAG standards
  • Knowledge of jQuery, JavaScript
  • Experience with relational database design
  • Demonstrated prior experience with Omeka, including development of plugins
  • Project management experience
  • Experience developing functional needs.
