Job Summary:

The Drug and Alcohol Counselor provides assessment, counseling, and support services to individuals struggling with substance use disorders. The counselor works closely with clients to develop personalized treatment plans, facilitate individual and group therapy sessions, and support long-term recovery. This role involves collaboration with healthcare providers, social service agencies, and family members to promote recovery, relapse prevention, and overall wellness.

Position Responsibilities

Facilitate support groups and therapeutic workshops.

Coordinate referrals to external services such as medical providers, mental health professionals, housing assistance, or rehabilitation programs.

Conduct comprehensive assessments and screenings to evaluate clients’ substance use history, mental health status, and treatment needs.

Develop individualized treatment and recovery plans in collaboration with clients and multidisciplinary teams.

Provide individual, group, and family counseling focused on addiction recovery and behavioral health.

Educate clients and families about substance abuse, relapse prevention, coping strategies, and recovery resources.

Support clients during crisis situations and provide appropriate intervention when necessary.

Stay current with best practices, treatment methodologies, and regulatory requirements related to substance use treatment.

Monitor client progress and modify treatment plans as needed.

Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential client records and documentation in compliance with regulatory standards.

Position Qualifications Required:

Required Experience: 1 to 3 years of experience working with individuals experiencing substance use disorders preferred.

Knowledge of addiction treatment models, recovery strategies, and behavioral health principles.

Strong interpersonal, communication, and crisis-management skills.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards.

Proficiency with documentation and electronic health record systems.

Preferred Experience: Experience facilitating group therapy sessions.

Knowledge of trauma-informed care and motivational interviewing techniques.

Ability to work effectively with diverse populations.

Strong organizational and case management skills.

Required Education: Bachelor’s required or master’s degree preferred in counseling, Psychology, Social Work, Behavioral Health, or a related field.

Training / Certification / Licensure: CADC credential required

Annual Salary: $56,174 - $87,342 The actual salary/rate will vary based on applicant’s experience as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
