The Standard seeks a talented Pricing/Modeling Actuary to join our Individual Annuities team. This role will be a key part of the team that is responsible for pricing, rate setting, product development support, reinsurance, and ALM Strategies for the Individual Annuities division. This will be a highly visible role and will work in a dynamic environment to build effective networks across the department/division. Responsibilities of the role may expand depending on the level of the candidate, with opportunities for additional exposure to management, sales team, financial planning process, competitor analysis, corporate modeling, and/or financial reporting, etc.

Key responsibilities may include:

  • Recommending new money and renewal rates for The Standard’s individual annuity products and being a spokesperson for the department’s rate-setting decisions, working inside and outside of the Individual Annuities division, and presenting results to executives
  • Analyzing new and existing product profitability and making strategic recommendations to optimize income and achieve growth goals. This involves asset allocation to cohorts of our business and monitoring inforce asset and liability characteristics by cohort
  • Assisting with the analysis of flow reinsurance as we build out the infrastructure of our first flow reinsurance transaction. Providing support during the execution reinsurance treaty. Working with corporate finance and accounting, corporate actuarial, deal team, and systems support to achieve successful implementation across various systems.  
  • Working with investments team and corporate actuaries to ensure ALM strategy is appropriate for strategic goals.
  • Supporting product development process via prioritization of new ideas, risk and financial analysis, contract and regulatory filings, pricing, modeling (both assets and liabilities), application of accounting standards, implementation of operations and management reporting, as well as product roll-out and sales support.
  • Maintaining and improving existing AXIS pricing models. Assisting with operational and implementation capabilities as the product development process evolves.

Associate Actuary III: Applies understanding of both functional area and company risk profiles to complete risk-based analysis. Seeks out industry and professional information to enhance risk management acumen.

Actuary: Demonstrates expertise in Company's risk profile, risk appetite and risk management practices.  Obtains foundational understanding of industry risk management practices. Utilizes Company and industry practices to complete risk-based analysis and propose appropriate risk-based opportunities.

Senior Actuary: Applies knowledge of broad industry practices and developments to advocate for risk-based opportunities within the Company’s risk appetite.  Participates in professional or industry groups and applies expertise to further the Company's practices.

Skills & Background You'll Need:

Education: Bachelor’s degree required

Certification: Associate of The Society of Actuaries (ASA)(required). Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) (preferred)

Experience:

  • Minimum of five years of progressively responsible actuarial experience -- annuities experience required, pricing & reinsurance experience are a plus.
  • Advanced to expert Excel skills (required)
  • Prior modeling experience (required) - GGY Axis experience (preferred)

  • Eligibility to participate in an incentive program is subject to the rules governing the program and plan. Any award depends on a variety of factors including individual and organizational performance.

The actual compensation for this role will be based on a combination of education and experience, knowledge and skills, position budget, internal equity, and market data.

Salary Range:

$131,750.00 - $192,500.00
