Make your mark in Actuarial

Our Actuaries are on the front lines, quantifying risk, pricing insurance and reserving losses for AIG’s major insurance operating companies, globally. We collaborate with Finance, Claims, Operations, Marketing and Risk Management, among other functions. As an AIG actuary, you will be challenged and encouraged to reach your greatest potential to help improve how we predict, manage and mitigate risk.

 How you will create an impact

  • Manage the reserves level for Insurance and Reinsurance Company for Commercial and Consumer lines products
  • Define the risk appetite (retention per risk)
  • Manage the capital level (current and projection)
  • Send Annual Appointed Actuary Report to the regulator commenting the external actuarial audit report
  • Advise management and Board of Directors about products profit and remediation plans
  • Give an opinion and recommendations on the adequacy of the underwriting policy
  • Contribute to effective implementation of the risk management
  • Monitor portfolio performance and support remediation plans
  • Define Budget Loss Ratio
  • Define technical provisions for local GAAP. 
  • Define technical provisions for US GAAP. 
  • Identify and investigate variances to financial plans and forecasts by interpreting financial results. 
  • Analyze quarterly studies of IBNR to manage loss ratio by products and help each Profit Center to create action plans. 
  • Develop financial statements. 
  • Manage databases to measure performance. 
  • Ensure accuracy on actuarial databases. 
  • Prepare QA documents for closings to ensure compliance and meet expectations/ timelines. 
  • Deliver ALM report to Investment team. 
  • Support internal and external audit.

What you’ll need to succeed

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Actuarial (Active MIBA)
  • Experience leading teams
  • Advanced English Skills
  • Capacity to enforce accountability and learn the strengths and development opportunities of the team so as to put people in a position to succeed.
  • Exceptional communication skills, including ability to develop and present clear and concise analysis and recommendations to senior management.
  • Proven ability to dissect complex business issues, perform research and analysis, and synthesize conclusions into a value-maximizing strategy.
  • Willing and able to continuously learn and adapt in a dynamic and fast changing environment. 
  • Ability to dive into technical and execution level details, do hands-on work, connect the dots while thinking strategically and serve as strong thought partner of cross functional leaders.
  • Comprehensive awareness of the insurance business, regulatory environment, competitors, market cycle, technology and legislative trends.
  • Not afraid to take charge of a situation and can overcome resistance to change, taking unpopular stands when necessary.
  • Collaborative team player willing to support development of colleagues.
