Overview of the Position

This position can be an entry-level role within the Actuarial Reserving department, supporting the General Liability (GL) and Umbrella lines of business, and is a part of The Hartford’s Actuarial Leadership Development Program.  The position is primarily responsible for the reserve review process with ownership of  Construction and Programs Middle & Large business segments.  In addition, the role will be involved with various cross-team and individual projects, analysis of GL trends and emerging issues, and exploration of new reserving techniques and analytical tools.  The ideal candidate will have statistical, analytical, and communication skills, with an interest in improving existing processes, addressing new challenges, and developing a deeper knowledge of reserving fundamentals.

Responsibilities

  • Own, update, and maintain loss and ALAE reserve analyses for Programs GL and Umbrella, Guaranteed Cost Construction GL and Umbrella, Construction Excess Risk, Contractor's Protective Professional Indemnity, and Construction Pollution Liability books of business.

  • Develop new analytical tools and enhance current tools to improve the accuracy and efficiency of reserve reviews to deliver improved insights to business partners.

  • Look for opportunities to innovate and enhance Construction and Programs analyses.

  • Conduct sophisticated actuarial analyses and effectively communicate findings and recommendations to business partners.

  • Provide insight and commentary for drivers of the monthly Actual vs. Expected reporting.

  • Participate on various reserving cross-department projects as needed.

Experience & Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.

  • Actuarial exam path to become a credentialed actuary with at least 1 passed exam required.

  • Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to effectively resolve complex issues.

  • Strong Excel skills required. Knowledge of SQL, VBA, R, Python or similar coding languages a plus.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Attention to detail with strong time and project management skills.

  • Driven, intellectually curious, passionate, resourceful and creative.

  • Proactive individual, who challenges existing processes, can influence others and drive a process to a conclusion while meeting critical deadlines

Salary $73,840-$132,240
 

This role will have a Hybrid work schedule, with the expectation of working in an office 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$73,840-$132,240

The posted salary range reflects our ability to hire at different position titles and levels depending on background and experience.
