What You Will Do
As an Accounting Technician, you’ll help make sure payments are accurate, timely, and compliant. You’ll work with real financial data, apply statewide accounting policies, and build skills for a long‑term career in public finance.
Typical daily duties include:
Process payments, travel reimbursements, and contract‑related transactions
Make sure payments meet state rules and documentation requirements
Troubleshoot and resolve discrepancies
Review invoices for accuracy
Maintain and set up vendor accounts
Reconcile statements and payment histories
Use statewide accounting systems
Support audits and answer agency questions

What We Are Looking For
Minimum Qualifications:
You must meet one of the following:
Two years of experience calculating, recording, and maintaining accounting information that must include coding transactions and checking them for propriety, balancing, and resolving discrepancies in computer edits;
OR
One year of experience calculating, recording, and maintaining accounting information that must include coding transactions and checking them for propriety, balancing, and resolving discrepancies in computer edits AND at least 43 quarter (29 semester) credit hours from an accredited college, university, or vocational-technical school that includes 9 quarter (6 semester) credit hours in accounting. Credit hours must include introductory level accounting courses 1 and 2;
OR
Successful completion of the State of Oregon Accounting Career Mobility Program or equivalent accounting certificate program from an accredited college or university;
OR
At least 94 quarter (62 semester) credit hours or an associate degree from an accredited college, university, or vocational-technical school that includes 12 quarter (8 semester) credit hours in accounting. Credit hours must include introductory level accounting courses 1 and 2 and may include any additional accounting courses with “accounting” in the title.
Training or experience must include using a computer to enter, update, or retrieve information.
Desired Attributes:
Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy in financial or data-entry work
Ability to interpret and apply rules, policies, procedures, and accounting guidelines
Experience identifying, researching, and resolving discrepancies in financial transactions
Skill in working with numbers, spreadsheets, and accounting systems
Clear and professional written and verbal communication
Customer‑service experience supporting internal or external customers
Experience in accounts payable or similar transactional accounting work
Knowledge of GAAP or governmental accounting principles

Hybrid Work Opportunity: After completing training (2-4 months), this position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule. The successful candidate will be required to report to the office once per week. Terms will be discussed and agreed upon with the successful candidate.
Additional Details
This recruitment is for one permanent, full-time, SEIU-represented Accounting Technician position, and may be used to fill future vacancies.
*The salary listed is the non-PERS qualifying salary range. If the successful candidate is PERS qualifying, the salary range will reflect the additional 6.95%.
