Major Duties:

  • Performs a variety of accounting clerical duties and administrative support functions for the Director, Finance Division for MCCS Twentynine Palms/Bridgeport. Accounting duties required will be pertaining to the preparation and maintenance of journals, subsidiary ledgers, schedules, and recapitulations reflecting various accounting transactions. Receives, analyzes, and classifies allotments, initiations, commitment, and obligation documents. Reviews documents for validity, budget and expenditure limitation, completeness and correctness of accounting data. Codes data onto necessary transaction sheets indicating type of appropriation and fund, control account, subsidiary account, limitation, and cost center. Reconciles undelivered orders monthly with general ledger accounts. Reconciles subsidiary accounts with the general ledger, control accounts for receivables, payables, work in process, inventory and property accounts. Maintains required records and ledgers, prepares month-end accounting documents and financial reports, etc., reviews claims for advance payments, letters of credit and expenditure reports. Verifies daily sales summaries and daily cash reports. Coordinates with Shared Services Center and activities for document research and submissions. Incumbent will also be required to gather statistical data to assist the director with required reports, monitor and report on departmental budgets and liquidate travel claims. Will be responsible for updating the director on projects and tasks as assigned. Will coordinate, collect, and compile information from multiple business units for analysis, and/or presentations. Incumbent will also be required to perform a variety of administrative support functions. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the maintenance of property inventory records, submission and tracking of electronic purchase requests, submission of worksite repair requests, ordering of office supplies, procuring assets, and destruction of aged/archived financial documents in accordance to record retention guidelines. Provides World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy. Assists customers and communicates positively in a friendly manner. Takes action to solve problems quickly. Alerts the higher-level supervisor, or proper point of contact for help when problems arise. Adheres to safety regulations and standards. Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor. Adheres to established standards of actively supporting the principles of the EEO program and prevention of sexual harassment. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Three years of progressively responsible experience, that demonstrates possession of accepted accounting principles and practices at a minimum OR 18 semester credits in accounting, or a certificate if using a combination of education and experience. Knowledge of office practices and procedures relating to the processing and recording of transactions and accounting information. Must demonstrate knowledge of MS Office Suite applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); ability to develop practical knowledge of the Marine Corps; practical knowledge of automated accounting system; knowledge of procedures necessary to verify and edit accounting data and input documents necessary to process items correctly in an accounting system. This is a white-collar position where occasional lifting up to 20 lbs. may be required. This position is required to be on-site.
