Summary
The Accounting Supervisor is a hands-on supervisor role responsible for supporting the monthly close, supervising staff and senior accountants, and ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant financial reporting across Athens’ operations. This position blends strong technical accounting execution with day-to-day people supervision, process discipline, and cross-functional collaboration with Finance, FP&A and IT.
Job Description
- Lead assigned components of the monthly and year-end close in accordance with established timelines.
- Review and approve journal entries, accruals, and data uploads for accuracy and completeness.
- Review account reconciliations and monthly account analyses prepared by staff and senior accountants.
- Investigate and explain material variances and fluctuations.
- Proactively identify, recommend, and implement process improvements that enhance close efficiency, data accuracy, internal controls, and scalability across accounting operations.
- Ensure consistency and integrity of data between the general ledger and source systems.
- Support preparation of monthly financial reporting and executive deliverables.
- Perform ad hoc analysis as requested. Prepare audit schedules and documentation. Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies. Support enforcement of capitalization and expenditure policies. Assist with maintaining accounting procedures and controls. Provide day-to-day supervision, coaching, and technical guidance. Review work for quality, accuracy, and adherence to accounting policies. Support onboarding and development of team members.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or any other related field.
- 5+ years’ experience in accounting
- Prior lead or supervisory experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Workday, SoftPak or Fleetio
- Waste or logistics industry experience
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices
- Excellent communication and organizational skills, as well as the ability to work well under pressure
- Ability to analyze financial data and provide insights and recommendations
Physical/Environmental Demands:
- Exposure to dust, smoke, fumes, odors, & noise occasionally.
- Exposure to grease, oil, chemicals, & wet conditions occasionally.
- Primarily works in office setting, but will be required to travel to other local divisions as needed.
Salary: $110,000 - $130,000/year
