Summary
Responsible for managing all aspects of the City’s financial accounting and general ledger reporting in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) pronouncements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Oversee and review the general ledger and financial statements preparation for accuracy and completeness. Ensure timely completion of month and fiscal year end closing.
Supervise and coordinate the reconciliation of the City’s financial and general ledger accounts. Ensure all financial accounting requirements are in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) pronouncements.
Coordinate the independent audit efforts and prepare the publication of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR). Respond to internal and external audit inquiries.
Develop and maintain policies and procedures for financial accounting and general ledger accounting processes and internal controls.
Manage and coordinate special projects to identify and correct financial, accounting and business process issues. Implement current and new accounting policies and procedures as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field of study
5 years related experience
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
Preferred Qualifications
Education/ Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field of study
5-7 years’ experience in complex Municipal Accounting, Finance, Business Management or similar
3 years’ experience in state and/or local government finance
2 years supervisory or management experience
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Government Finance Officer (CGFO) preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Extensive knowledge of municipal governmental accounting
Extensive knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB)
Advanced analytical skills and attention to detail
Proficient skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)
Extensive skills with preparing and analyzing financial statements and reports
Extensive skills with financial management systems
Proficient in accounting and general ledger systems (i.e., Workday)
Ability to communicate in presentation and writing
Licenses and Certifications
Valid Class C Texas driver's license
