Melbourne CBD & Inner Suburbs Melbourne VIC Full time

About the role

We're seeking an Accounting Lead to provide technical accounting and sustainability reporting expertise and leadership across our Group's complex accounting function, leading the assessment and resolution of significant accounting and sustainability reporting matters, supporting major development and acquisition projects, and driving continuous improvement in accounting processes and controls.

You'll join an innovative team who are committed to maintaining the highest standards of financial governance and reporting integrity across our multi-asset portfolio. As an Accounting Lead, you'll contribute to lasting and positive changes that shape the future of our cities and communities. It's meaningful, challenging and exciting work.

Day-to-day, you will:

  • Lead the assessment and determination of accounting treatment, and sustainability reporting implications, for complex and non-standard transactions, including those arising from development activities, acquisitions, and organisational changes
  • Develop, maintain, and ensure adherence to accounting policies, processes, and financial controls across the accounting function
  • Prepare and review complex financial statement and sustainability reporting disclosures and ensure consistency in treatments across Group entities during half-year and year-end reporting cycles
  • Support major development, acquisition, and merger projects as a finance subject matter expert, including due diligence support, integration planning, and coordination with external advisors
  • Lead the development and implementation of accounting and sustainability reporting process improvements and automation initiatives, including documentation and embedding of new processes and controls
  • Support the Senior Finance Manager and broader finance team with  financial governance, training and auditor engagements

This role will suit someone with a curious mind and transferrable skills and experiences, including:

  • Professional accounting qualification (CA, CPA, or equivalent) with extensive experience in complex accounting environments, ideally from Big 4 or similar professional services background
  • Strong technical accounting expertise in IFRS interpretation, sustainability reporting, complex transactions (revenue recognition, financial instruments, consolidation, fair value measurements), and group accounting across multiple entities
  • Demonstrated experience leading the assessment and documentation of complex accounting matters and communicating accounting positions to senior stakeholders
  • Effective collaboration and stakeholder engagement skills – ability to partner with cross-functional teams (finance, business units, legal, audit, external advisors) and influence decisions at senior levels
  • Ability to evaluate, establish, and improve accounting processes and controls, with experience in system implementations, automation initiatives, or remediation projects
  • Bonus points for exposure to major projects, acquisitions, developments, or integration activities in complex organisational environments

If you meet some of these requirements, but not all, we encourage you to submit your application.
