Job Description:

The Accounting Coordinator supports the financial operations of the department by performing professional-level accounting functions. The incumbent is responsible for managing, tracking, and reporting the financial activities related to various funding sources including grants, foundation and state accounts. The incumbent ensures compliance with university policies, state regulations, and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). The incumbent monitors funding requirements and prepares financial reports to support academic units. 

45% The Accounting Coordinator supports the financial operations of the department by performing professional-level accounting functions. The incumbent is responsible for managing, tracking, and reporting the financial activities related to various funding sources including grants, foundation and state accounts. The incumbent ensures compliance with university policies, state regulations, and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). The incumbent monitors funding requirements and prepares financial reports to support academic units. 

25% The incumbent balances monthly salary savings account using report from Budget & Planning. Updates cost cent er files to include actual and projected expenditures. Tracks savings and expenses as a result of vacant positions, LWOPs, research buyouts, sabbaticals, adjuncts, summer salary, merits and other categories. Tracks all non-budgeted salary activity to reflect the appropriate party responsible for the balance. Research discrepancies. Works closely to monitor actual expenses when it is significantly different than projected. 

25% The incumbent works closely with team to ensure all Foundation accounts are balanced. Provides department chair with current balances and projections. Creates new accounts. 
The incumbent works closely with team to perform thorough Scholarship Financial Review and Reconciliation. The incumbent manages the Endowed Professorship and Chair Financial Review process which includes preparation of forms, tracking of payments, making accounting entries, updating holders and maintaining vacant list. Prepares Foundation check requests and assists with Foundation credit card reconciliations. 

5% Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field and 2 years of accounting or financial experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with University or public sector accounting, familiarity with Workday, knowledge of grant accounting, unrestricted or foundation accounts.
