Accounting & Reporting role that provides accounting, financial analysis, and reporting support for the Electric Segment and reports through the Controller's Department. This role is responsible for certain internal and external accounting and reporting assignments. The position may be filled at either an Analyst II or Senior Analyst level depending on the qualifications of the successful candidate.
Accounting Analysts at this level interact with various departments to provide guidance and assistance for accurate and timely reporting. This position will work closely with onshore and offshore teammates within the Controller’s department and other departments such as Financial Planning & Analysis, Rates & Regulatory, Legal, Treasury, Investor Relations, and Tax along with internal and external auditors to fulfill various reporting and disclosure requirements.
Additionally, Accounting Analysts at this level are expected to have in-depth knowledge and experience to solve complex problems and interpret internal or external business issues and recommend solutions. The Analyst may provide leadership (advising and providing direction) to others in financial areas of specialization and may coordinate daily work activities and review the work of other teammates. The Analyst is expected to work independently, requiring guidance in only the most complex situations, but must also be able to work in a team setting as well.
Effective communication skills are required as the Analyst in this position will frequently interact with various departments and individuals throughout the organization. Strong technical knowledge, and research capabilities are required to ensure compliance with both GAAP and FERC guidance. Responsibilities are varied including transactional assignments, setting priorities and special projects as assigned. The Analyst will perform complex analysis and modelling, research ad-hoc requests, develop reporting, and present results for management review and decision making.
The Accounting Analyst works closely with teammates and managers on various monthly/quarterly accounting and reporting activities that include but are not limited to:
Preparation and/or review of journal entries and account reconciliations
Preparation and/or review of monthly management reports such as the earnings flash, the financial results summary (FRS_AvB analysis), and the balance sheet variance analysis
Preparation and/or review of quarterly/annual external financial reports for the SEC and FERC such as the data requests supporting 10Q/K filings; and other monthly surveillance reporting and the FERC Forms 1 and Q-3 filings
Preparation of data request information and other analyses and special projects as received from Rates, Legal, Investor Relations, SEC Reporting, and Treasury
Other areas of responsibility may include cash flow preparation per GAAP and FERC; regulatory asset and liability oversight, and accounting for variable interest entities
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or other closely related discipline
Two (2) years or more of increasingly diverse or complex experience in related field in addition to degree
Possesses and applies comprehensive and strategic knowledge of accounting and finance principles, practices, and procedures to complete complex assignments
Experience with financial applications (i.e., PeopleSoft FMIS, Power Plant, etc.) and query tools
Proficient using Microsoft products such as Excel, Word, and Power Point
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or other closely related discipline
Three (3) years or more of increasingly diverse or complex experience in related field in addition to degree
Possesses and applies comprehensive and strategic knowledge of accounting and finance principles, practices, and procedures to complete complex assignments
Experience with financial applications (i.e., PeopleSoft FMIS, Power Plant, etc.) and query tools
Proficient using Microsoft products such as Excel, Word, and Power Point
Four (4) or more years of increasingly diverse or complex experience in related field in addition to degree
CPA or CPA candidate
Graduate degree in Accounting, Business, or related fields
Possesses and applies fundamental accounting and finance concepts, practices, and procedures
Previous experience in utility or regulatory accounting environment
Effective written and oral communication and collaboration skills
Advanced analytical and critical thinking skills, including data analytics
Demonstrated ability to effectively perform at the experienced analyst level, including ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and adhere to strict deadlines and schedules
Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and foster good relationships with teammates and business partners
Highly organized with attention to detail and ability to efficiently multi-task within tight deadlines
Experience with financial systems: Wdesk, HFM, SmartView, PeopleSoft; and Advanced Microsoft Office products skills (e.g.,Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Public accounting or auditing experience

Hybrid Mobility Classification – Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable daily commute to a Duke Energy facility.

Years of prior equivalent work-related experience in lieu of a degree is N/A unless grandfathered in and requires CFO Staff approval.
