Major Job Responsibilities:
Month-end close and Reconciliation:
Prepare selected monthly/quarterly and ad-hoc journal vouchers with intermediate levels of complexity based on nature of accounts and/or dollar value
Identify, analyze and reconcile inconsistent information and recommend adjustments where necessary
Responsible for maintaining the general ledger and ensuring accurate recording of transactions of assigned accounts to support rapid and accurate period-end close.
Reconciling assigned accounts and resolving discrepancies for review by manager
Ensure reconciling items are resolved timely
Ensure adherence to all policies and legislation regarding accurate reporting of financial results
Ensure all financial analysis and recommendations are grounded and well supported
Support / troubleshoot for junior staff; Provide coverage to complete tasks before deadline as needed
Internal & External Audit:
Collaborate closely with the auditors to provide requested financial information and supporting documents in a timely manner.
Support junior staff with more complicated audit requests and act as back-up for coverage when needed
Participate walkthroughs or testing procedures required by the auditors.
Complete internal & external audit requests on time and accurately
Support / troubleshoot for junior staff; Provide coverage to complete tasks before deadline as needed
Performs and assists in documentation and monitoring SOX key controls and ensures no gaps or deficiencies in the operation of key controls
Analysis & Projects:
Assist with ad-hoc projects, such as system implementations or process improvements; conduct financial analysis for business decision-making as directed by manager
Collect, capture, and reconcile large amounts of data from a variety of sources and create report-style outputs
Ensure presentation of information is professional, timely and accurate
Provide financial expertise on accounting policies and standards, including the evaluation and analysis of routine events or transactions
Able to thrive under pressure and are able to independently manage work priorities and follow through on meeting deadlines
Process Review & Improvement:
Evaluate and drive accounting process improvements, while working with cross-functional teams to improve associated processes across the business.
Perform complex financial analysis, including: conducting research, identifying gaps in processes and results, designing and implementing solutions to support reporting and analysis requirements.
Review financial operating results to identify key trends, variances, and provide commentary to the financial reporting team.
Act as an expert knowledge resource for assigned area of responsibilities to ensure compliance
Maintain positive interpersonal relationships with a goal of ensuring that recommendations are aligned with the strategic goals of the organization
Able to work well in a cross-functional team environment maintaining inter-departmental respect, sensitivity to all perspectives and information
Collaborate with teams and individuals across multiple functions and organizations within Finning to identify variances and build solutions to solve the root causes of these variances
Broad level understanding of Finning business model
Leadership, coaching, mentoring:
Assist and perform training sessions to enhance the team’s skills and knowledge
Support to help train new and/or entry level team members
Take on cross-training tasks as assigned, support/troubleshoot for junior accountants
Mandatory (Must-Have) Skills:
3-5 years of progressive finance and accounting related experience in an analytical role in Finance or Accounting
Intermediate to Advanced Excel Skills including ability to use lookups and pivot tables and utilize it to analyze financial data efficiently
Application expertise (desirable): Infor M3, BPC/AFO, Blackline, Power BI, SharePoint, Workday MS Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
Bachelor of Accounting/Finance
A professional accounting designation (CPA) is an asset
Relevant experience with period-end close, financial analysis, internal control (CSOX), and financial process optimization
Working knowledge of General Ledger and Chart of Account Structures
Working Knowledge of accounting standards and regulatory requirements applicable to public companies (IFRS)
