Job Description Summary
The Accountant, Capital Expenditures is responsible for monitoring all construction and/or insurance projects and maintaining detailed schedules of project spending against budget and forecast. This includes analyzing, investigating, and reporting on variances to ensure financial accuracy and control. The role requires strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, as well as advanced proficiency in office systems and related software applications.
Job Description
Responsibilities:
- Prepare monthly summary and detail construction reports, update historical and projected cash flows, and perform analysis for all projects.
- Review, analyze, and approve invoices for capital and/or insurance expenditures.
- Reconcile hotel capital expenditure general ledger account.
- Collaborate with Operations and maintain capital expenditure forecast for assigned hotels by project that includes actual spent, committed, and planned budget.
- Assists Operations and Finance in preparing annual capital expenditure budgets and five-year capital expenditure plans.
- Review, analyze and approve Purchase Asset Request (“PAR”) forms for capital expenditures.
- Review project change order requests and PAR updates for completeness and accuracy.
- Reconciles capital expenditures and prepares documentation for reimbursement from hotel ownership.
- Prepare adjusting and job cost entries to correct posting errors to the capital expenditure general ledger accounts.
- Effectively communicate with General Contractors, Project Managers, and Hotel General Managers regarding project status, contract documents, change orders and any additional services related to the project.
- Assist in financial audit and tax filing activities.
- Perform special projects as needed.
Qualifications:
A candidate for this position must possess the following applicable knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to demonstrate and provide applicable examples to support his/her competency.
- Minimum of 1 to 3 years of accounting experience, hospitality or project accounting preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience, and a strong record of success in academic and work environments.
- Strong Excel and PowerPoint skills, as well as ability to learn multiple new back end software applications.
- Must be familiar with double-entry bookkeeping, GAAP Accounting, and have an understanding of the general ledger process.
- Foundational understanding of financial statement preparation and ability to read and analyze income statement and balance sheet.
- Strong analytical ability – must be able to synthesize data, be able to error check and reconcile own work, and be able to design analysis to answer specific questions.
- A detail-oriented approach – must pay close attention to the details and have the drive to get things right.
- Must be PC proficient and able to thrive in a fast-paced setting.
- Ability to proactively communicate and work effectively with hotel staff, corporate management, and internal customers.
- Ability to think outside the box and challenge the status quo.
- Attention to detail, problem solving and trouble shooting skills are essential.
- Excellent oral and written communication.
- Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines required.
- Must thrive in a teamwork setting and have excellent organizational skills.

Additional Job Information/Anticipated
Pay Range
Pay Range: $50,000 to $60,000. Base pay offered may vary depending on various factors including but not limited to job related knowledge, skills, and job specific/overall experience.
