ZEISS is an internationally leading technology enterprise operating in the optics and optoelectronics industries generating more than 11.8 billion euros in revenue with around 46,000 employees across 50 countries around the globe.  We’re looking for an Account Manager in our Medical Technology (Ophthalmology) division to join our team in Johannesburg, Randburg.

Your Role

The Account Manager Contributes to the achievement of annual revenue and profit targets by implementing the branding and promotional strategies. Build and maintain customer relationships to achieve maximum customer satisfaction and retention of customer accounts or prospects to sell in a defined varied category of company products, services and solutions within a designated geography or industry. Consults customers with a very high level of consultancy needs, queries and complaints; record and manage direct customer feedback. Focuses on meeting personal sales targets, new business development, and troubleshooting specific customer problems. Continuously monitors market trends, very high intensity of sales negotiations. 

  • Proactively seek out new sales opportunities and follow up on leads provided.

  • Identify potential customers and present product/service offerings to meet their needs.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with existing and potential customers. Provide excellent customer service and support to ensure customer satisfaction and loyalty.

  • Develop a deep understanding of our products/services and effectively communicate their features, benefits, and value proposition to customers.

  • Stay informed about market trends, competitor activities, and industry developments. Use market insights to identify opportunities for growth and stay ahead of the competition.

  • Keep accurate records of sales activities, including customer interactions, sales calls, and sales pipeline status.

  • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and industry regulations.

  • Work closely with other members of the sales team, as well as with marketing, customer service, and other departments, to achieve company objectives and provide seamless customer experience.

  • Provide support to the ZEISS Cataract and Posterior portfolio in South Africa on all OPT related consumables.

  • Support Key Opinion leaders in cataract and retinal surgery field.

  • Prepare activity schedules, activity reports, prospect lists (CRM)

  • Visit clients based in Gauteng, Northwest, Limpopo, Mpumalanga

  • Sell products / Close deals

  • Promote products to (prospective) clients

  • Arrange contract and payment details with client

  • Find and contact potential new customers

  • Build relationships with customers

  • Arrange demonstrations / presentations

  • Handle clients’ queries in oral and / or written form

  • Update records

  • Arrange quotations

  • Provide continuous feedback to Head of Segment

  • Keep sales records

  • Attend conferences / exhibitions

  • Keep track of competitors

  • Meet sales targets

  • Conduct in-service product train with customers

  • Align inventory levels to market requirements

  • Conduct and attend product related workshops, congresses, roadshows, conferences, etc

  • Align with Marketing Manager that marketing material for products is current and available

  • Present market related data for budgeting and assist actively in the budgeting process

  • Conduct regular stock stakes at customers on consignment stock insuring inventory is accurate and consolidated

  • Keep current records on competitive products

Your Profile

You must have:

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, marketing, or related field

  • 3- 5 years professional experience in Medical Sales, ideally in the area of Ophthalmology

  • Valid driver’s license, own reliable car,

  • Previous experience in sales, preferably in a B2B or B2C environment.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Salesforce software

  • Knowledge and experience in the theatre environment.

  • Excellent knowledge of the Ophthalmology market in the region.

  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
