About the Role

The UK & Ireland Portfolio Account Manager plays a key role in driving sustainable growth and building strong, long‑term customer relationships within a defined territory and portfolio of accounts. This role balances account management with new business development, working closely with customers to understand their needs and align solutions that support their objectives.You will be responsible for managing renewals, identifying opportunities for expansion, and developing new business, while positioning the full Elsevier portfolio to deliver clear and measurable value. Success in this role comes from strong relationship‑building, commercial thinking, and a genuine interest in helping customers succeed.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver revenue growth across assigned accounts and territory through a combination of renewals, upsell, cross‑sell and new business development

  • Manage renewal processes end‑to‑end, including negotiation and timely close, while mitigating risk

  • Develop and execute strategic account and territory plans aligned to customer needs and organisational priorities

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, decision‑makers and influencers within customer organisations

  • Act as the primary commercial contact for customers, owning overall account relationships and engagement

  • Identify new opportunities by understanding customer challenges, objectives and industry trends

  • Maintain a strong understanding of customer strategy, market developments and competitive landscape

  • Share insights and intelligence internally to support broader sales and business strategies

  • Work collaboratively with internal teams to deliver a seamless and value‑driven customer experience

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience

  • Experience in B2B or corporate sales environments, with a track record of managing accounts and driving growth

  • Strong account planning, relationship‑building and negotiation skills

  • Ability to understand customer needs and align solutions to deliver value

  • Confident communication and presentation skills, with experience engaging stakeholders at different levels

  • Comfortable working in a matrixed organisation and collaborating across teams

  • Familiarity with CRM and sales enablement tools (such as Salesforce or similar)

  • Experience with structured sales methodologies (e.g. Challenger, MEDDIC) is beneficial but not essential

  • A proactive, customer‑focused mindset with the ability to manage priorities and work independently
