Access Services & Technical Processing Manager

Job Description

This posting is for a full-time, 12-month, exempt position. This position manages the library’s access and resource sharing services including service desk operations; policies and procedures; supervision and training of student workers; interlibrary loan services in OCLC, and sharing of materials in OhioLINK. This position also performs copy cataloging and processing of library materials; and performs acquisition functions including communicating with vendors; processing invoices; and maintaining records.

Essential Functions

This position requires regular, predictable, reliable attendance in the office environment.

Access & Resource Sharing Services

1. Hire, supervise and train student employees to carry out all functions and services of the Borrow & Pickup desk including: providing general informational assistance to callers and patrons, checking out materials, managing use of study rooms and recording appropriate library statistics.

2. Implement and ensure adherence to Borrow & Pickup desk operating policies and procedures, adjusting to ensure effective and efficient operations.

3. Supervise and train student workers in the operations of p-circ.

4. Manage Interlibrary Loan transactions within OhioLINK and OCLC. Process direct requests using OCLC Worldshare.

5. Set library building hours for semesters and communicate to all internal and external stakeholders. Supervise the opening and closing of the Library.

6. Participate in OPAL Circulation and Catalog interest groups as the designated OPAL voting member. Participate in other professional groups as appropriate including as the library’s representative on OhioLINK’s policy teams.

7. Keep informed of current practices through listservs and professional development training and meetings.

8. Coordinate return of books and materials to shelves and storage places.

9. Order library supplies and physical materials for the library’s collection.

10. Manage course reserves functions

11. Collect replacement fees and coordinate billing with the Business Office

12. Repair damaged items.

Acquisitions & Cataloging

1. Perform copy cataloging of materials, in all formats, using appropriate current standards for Shafer Library and its related resource centers.

2. Maintain integrity of records and holdings in our Alma Library Management System and OCLC union catalog for Shafer Library and its related resource centers, including regular inventory of collection.

3. Oversee the physical processing of tangible materials added to the collections.

4. Serve as primary administrative, billing and contact for library electronic and print resources.

5. Process payments for library electronic and print resource subscriptions in Workday

6. Monitor vendor and OhioLINK correspondence for changes or additions to the library’s subscriptions.

7. Manage the Federal and Ohio government depository publications collections.

8. Create and maintain Libguides in areas of responsibility.

9. Keep records of active vendors for subscribed library electronic resources.

This position supervises a student worker, graduate student, or intern.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers.

Physical Demands

This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time 12-month position, and general hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Travel

Minimal travel is expected to attend OPAL or OhioLINK meetings.

Required Education and Experience

1. High school diploma.

2. One to three years of library work experience.

Preferred Education and Experience

1. Associate’s degree.
