The Opportunity:

As an Academic Research Reference Librarian, you will Provides comprehensive

reference interview, research, consultation, and liaison services. Guide library patron's

researchers in employing search strategies and continually develops competence in

the specialized subject area of Military Science.  Interface with Universities that offer

Military Science subjects and data to access shared references.  Serve as a team

member supporting the Education Chief in the review/input on undergraduate and

graduate school student application packet submissions and thesis papers.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides comprehensive reference interview, research, consultation, and
  • liaison services. 
  • Guides library patron's researchers in employing search strategies and
  • continually develops competence in the specialized subject area of Military
  • Science.  
  • Interfaces with Universities that offer Military Science subjects and data
  • to access shared references.  
  • Serve as a team member supporting the SWCS/SOCoE Education Chief in the
  • review/input on undergraduate and graduate school student application packet
  • submissions and thesis papers. 
  • Oversee library patron member service operations and responsibilities
  • regarding the circulation desk which include the following areas: Interlibrary
  • Loans, Permanent Reserve, New Materials, Special Collections, circulation of
  • all materials, and front desk customer service. 
  • Conduct one-on-one or group consultations to help users develop research
  • strategies, understand research methodologies, and locate relevant materials. 
  • Teach information literacy skills, including how to evaluate sources, cite
  • references, and use databases effectively. 
  • Assess and recommend the acquisition of new library materials, including
  • books, journals, databases, and digital resources, to support the curriculum
  • and research needs. 
  • Regularly review and remove outdated or underutilized materials from the
  • collection. 
  • Conduct orientation sessions for new students and faculty to familiarize them
  • with library resources and services. 
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of digital collections, including
  • institutional repositories and digital archives. 
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and integrate them into library
  • services and resources. 
  • Work with other librarians, faculty, and staff on projects that enhance the
  • library’s role in supporting academic and research missions. 
  • Participate in or organize events, such as lectures, panel discussions, and
  • research fairs, to promote the library’s resources and services. 
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to stay abreast of trends and best
  • practices in librarianship, academic research, and information technology. 
  • Contribute to the development and revision of library policies and procedures. 

Qualifications:

Required: 

  • Secret Security Clearance. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in library science or a related field.
  • Experience working in a library setting, particularly in reference services.
  • Experience providing services through digital platforms, such as chat, email, or video conferencing.

Desired: 

  • Master’s degree of Library Science or Library and Information Science.
  • Certification from professional library associations.

Pay Range: There are a host of factors that can influence final salary including, but not limited to, geographic location, Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, relevant prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education, and certifications. The proposed salary range for this position is:

$70,100 - $147,400
