Position Description:

The College of Business at the University of Louisville is dedicated to providing a holistic, comprehensive education to students who are seeking to solve complex problems in an ever-changing world. We are looking for people to join as we educate our students to be analytical, innovative, curious, and engaged.

Currently, the College of Business advising unit is seeking to hire an Academic Advisor II who believes in our mission to provide individual, professional advising services for undergraduate students interested in degree programs offered by the college. We see every interaction with a student as an opportunity to make a positive impact on their educational experience. We believe that we are the “guides on the ride” for our students as we celebrate our student’s successes, but also assist them in navigating setbacks.  

We are looking for candidates who can empower students to take ownership of their education, who are advocates for their students, and who can develop partnerships and build relationships not only with their students, but with faculty and key stakeholders across campus. In the multifaceted landscape of higher education, we are committed to a student-centered approach to our advising practice.

In your role as an Academic Advisor II you will primarily:

  • Provide individual advising and assist students through major selection, goal-setting, and degree planning.

  • Guide and monitor students through their individual academic plans as they progress towards degree completion.

  • Provide support and resource assistance as student’s navigate institutional policy and challenges that may impact their success here at UofL.

  • Utilize advising and student records software to maintain accurate and detailed advising notes, track students, and schedule advising appointments.

  • Participate in professional development opportunities and integrate new or improved knowledge into your advising practice.

  • Promote student success for all within UofL’s student population by working collaboratively with colleagues dedicated to providing student-centered, highly engaged student contact.

Competencies:

  • Ability to build rapport and sustain relationships with students.

  • Experience and comfort working with a variety of student populations and responding to individual student needs. High level of interpersonal communication, problem solving, time management and organizational skills.

  • Familiarity with technology related to word processing and student information systems.

  • Ability to work in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.

Preferred Competencies:

  • Knowledge of and ability to apply student development theory.

  • Experience working in a fast-paced, high student contact environment.

Targeted Salary $47,400 

                                                                                           

Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
