The Opportunity
The role of the Academic Advisor involves counseling students with academic advisement concerning degree curriculums, academic regulations, procedures, policies, interpretation of the Official Advising Report, program changes, transfer credit, advanced standing, and graduation requirements. Academic Advisors are responsible for monitoring student progress from the time of admission throughout graduation. Advisors are responsible for conducting individual advising sessions to assist students in course selection, degree planning, and academic goal setting.
Advisors develop personalized degree plans to counsel and assist students with registration and to ensure student persistence. Serves as the liaison between the student and various partner offices and colleges. Responsible for proactively communicating to students via email, text/chat, phone, in person meetings and virtual meetings. Advisors will promote student/advisor appointments and student engagement at every opportunity.
The position requires independent judgment and decision making and the utilization of resources in the assessment and resolution of student issues. Collects research and data on student trends pertaining to retention and academic success. Conducts detailed analyses of student academic records. Assists with coverage of student files when needed due to extended advisor personal leave. Advisors are expected to communicate with students proactively to promote student retention and maintain a high level of customer service.
Essential Job Functions, Duties, or Accountabilities
Student Support and Academic Advising:
Counsel students on degree curriculums, academic regulations, prerequisites, graduation requirements, procedures, policies, and the interpretation of their program Official Advising Report. Develop personalized degree plans and counsel students regarding timely degree progress and completion. Proactively contact students at the beginning, within, and at the end of their courses to ensure they are prepared and to determine if assistance is needed. Monitor and track student progress during each semester and make course recommendations for subsequent terms. Integral involvement with student retention and outreach efforts.
Responsible for advising and assessing student requests for dropping courses, academic and curriculum waivers, changes of program, declaration of minors, change of catalog, requests for updated Official Advising Reports, applications for graduation, and approval to take courses at another institution.
Serves as the liaison between the student and various partner offices and colleges. Maintains a working knowledge of tuition costs and dates and deadlines to prepare students for tuition payment and course planning.
Provide personalized advising for all at-risk students including those on conditional admission, academic warning, and probation. Proactively contact at-risk students to determine progress during and following each term of enrollment. Encourages involvement in academic reset, UNIV 195, and other opportunities for academic improvement.
Promote scholarship opportunities, institutional aid initiatives, information about Honors, alumni affinity groups, career services, and other organizations.
Work collaboratively with faculty to address any student challenges toward course completion and retention and persistence.
Assist students with course textbooks and assist with any issues related to required course materials.
Assist students with navigating ERNIE, Campus Solutions, Canvas, and other university platforms as needed.
Student communication/outreach
Responsible for proactively contacting students in alignment with the department communication plan, which includes but is not limited to: at time of matriculation, regarding next term of enrollment, mid-point check in, at-risk indicators, inactive student status, and about to break status.
Accountable for contacting new students upon matriculation, ensuring that students are welcomed to the university and have received information regarding their degree plans. Discuss next steps toward enrollment including funding, prerequisite/corequisite requirements, and Campus Solutions to-do list items that may be required to begin classes.
Responsible for proactively contacting all enrolled students each semester of enrollment to determine how courses are progressing, answer questions, and assist with any challenges toward course completion and future course progression as needed.
Responsible for proactively contacting inactive students to address any challenges toward degree progression.
Contact and congratulate Dean’s list and Honor Roll students.
Contact students at time of graduation to congratulate them, review commencement details, and promote Alumni engagement.
Work closely with faculty, staff, and various campus resources to create a supportive network for students.
Responsible for communicating with students via all methods of available communication including email, text/chat, phone, in person and virtual meetings at all opportunities to provide a high level of customer service.
Responsible for promoting student/advisor appointments to increase student engagement, and for being prompt to student appointments.
Follows the department dress code guidelines and use of approved background for virtual appointments is required.
Management of Student Records
Responsible for entering and maintaining accurate information in Campus Solutions, Salesforce, Imaging, SharePoint, and other university platforms as applicable.
Required to document student records by leaving detailed advisor notes regarding conversations and student status.
Responsible for reconciling and resolving individual student enrollment and academic issues.
Evaluates student prerequisite knowledge. Ensures students enroll and meet curriculum requirements.
Accountable for maintenance of approximately 350-400 student files.
Accountable for meeting individual advisor registration targets.
Accountable for quarterly reports.
Responsible for assisting team members with coverage of student files when advisors are on extended personal leave.

Compensation
The annual salary range for this position is $43,888 to $46,000. The final offer will consider the candidate’s skills, qualifications, and experience, along with applicable state regulations, internal equity, and business needs, and may fall outside of the stated range.
