POSITION PURPOSE

The ABA and Autism Services Coordinator is responsible for providing both administrative and clinical support in the behavioral health authorization process for ABA and Autism Services at Louisiana Blue. This position entails managing incoming communications, monitoring work queues within Epic, Enterprise Workflow, and fax systems, reviewing and entering ABA therapy authorization requests, and facilitating approvals in accordance with established criteria. The role also involves engaging with providers to obtain necessary documentation, clarify treatment plans, and communicate authorization decisions to members and providers.

How You Contribute to the Company’s Mission In This Role

  • Responds to incoming inquiries related to ABA service requests, initiates authorization workflows, and appropriately routes cases to the BCBA Utilization Reviewer.
  • Communicates authorization decisions and procedural guidance to members and providers, including instructions for accessing the iLinkBlue portal and submitting requests.
  • Coordinates and schedules meetings between providers and the BCBA as directed.
  • Assists in the collection of relevant data and enters pre-authorization information into Epic or other designated systems under the supervision of licensed health professionals. This includes demographic and service-related details.
  • Conducts benefit reviews to determine member coverage for requested services and relays findings to professional staff.
  • Supports the review and approval of routine service requests that meet established criteria, as authorized by licensed professional staff, including the Behavioral Health Medical Director.
  • Organizes and summarizes clinical documentation submitted with requests—such as treatment plans, progress notes, and assessments—for evaluation by the BCBA Utilization Reviewer.
  • Prepares and disseminates written and verbal notifications regarding authorization decisions, ensuring accuracy and completeness of correspondence.
  • Investigates databases and systems (e.g., Facets, Epic) to identify duplicate or misrouted requests, forwarding them to appropriate departments and initiating workflows accordingly.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications 

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2 years of experience in healthcare, specifically autism-related services
  • Familiarity with medical terminology, particularly terminology associated with ABA therapy and developmental disorders
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively in a dynamic environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to interact professionally with individuals at all organizational levels

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active or previous certification as a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) or Registered Line Technician (RLT)
  • Experience supporting utilization management processes or working with Electronic Health Records/Systems
