The Boeing CompanyThe Boeing Company is seeking 787 Aircraft Troubleshooting Specialist (Experienced or Senior) to join Palmetto Works’ production and in-service support team in North Charleston, SC. Palmetto Works is a specialized, highly experienced and qualified 787 Engineering team dedicated to supporting Boeing products and customers globally.
Palmetto Works develops industry leading diagnostic tools and proactive techniques to prevent and resolve challenging aircraft system faults and improve fleet quality and reliability. The team travels globally in support of internal and external customer requests for troubleshooting assistance, proactive inspection development, and troubleshooting training. With a unique combination of past aircraft maintenance experience and engineering level system analysis, the team is ideally positioned to challenge the status quo and lead the industry in developing and deploying new Proactive Maintenance tools and methods to address aircraft systems and avionics issues.
Palmetto Works is part of 787 Delivery Center Engineering and is based with Production Engineering in North Charleston, SC. Palmetto Works is currently expanding its reach and impact at the 787-production facility through a growing team and is seeking dynamic individuals to support this growth and further establish Palmetto Works as an industry leader.
Our teams are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including Experienced and Senior Level Specialists.
Position Responsibilities:
Support emergent production troubleshooting requests, identify traveled work root cause and create tools/processes/training to prevent repeat failures.
Travel to customer and supplier locations to troubleshoot new delivery issues and drive quality improvements in the factory.
Establish and maintain relationships and interactions with different internal groups to represent Palmetto Works and drive cross-functional integration.
Develop effective systematic troubleshooting work instructions using design and specification documents to resolve intermittent systems and avionics faults.
Understand and apply advanced troubleshooting tools, such as oscilloscopes, external power supplies, frequency domain reflectometers, thermal imagers, ultrasonic diagnostic tools, etc., in on-wing/hands-on troubleshooting scenarios.
Perform root-cause analysis on customer logbook and component tear down information to identify subtle failure trends and opportunities to resolve long-standing reliability issues.
Work with the Boeing Customer Support and production engineering teams to develop, validate, publish, and implement new and innovative proactive aircraft inspection tasks using advanced diagnostic tools and methods.
Effectively prepare and present complex technical information to internal and external customers.
Lead troubleshooting work instruction development and execution for complex/intermittent systems and avionics faults.
Lead research and development of new/advanced diagnostic tools and methods.
Willing to be on call 24x7 as required to support emergent business and customer needs.
The candidate must be willing to travel domestic and internationally on a very short notice, with travel time approximately 25% of the time.
Work Authorization Statement:
This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at our North Charleston, SC location.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
Bachelor's degree (or higher) or an FAA/EASA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) license or equivalent.
Aircraft systems/avionics maintenance training consisting of one of the following:
FAA or EASA aircraft maintenance license with advanced electrical training such as:
NCATT Aircraft Electronics Technician certificate
FCC General Radiotelephone Operators license
2-year electrical/electronics degree
military electrical training
5 or more years’ related experience in avionics systems troubleshooting, wire bundle installations, and aircraft electrical systems troubleshooting.
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
9 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
9+ years of experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings and specifications (e.g., blueprint/schematic reading, specification, change, design.
Experience developing solutions to a wide range of complex and challenging technical problems, requiring ingenuity and innovation to identify unique solutions.
Experience developing and delivering training materials.
Experience troubleshooting airplanes using advanced test equipment, such as oscilloscopes, external power supplies, frequency domain reflectometers, thermal imagers, and ultrasonic diagnostic tools.
Experience creating or leading airplane reliability initiatives.
Avionics workshop experience troubleshooting down to sub-component (IC, transistor, capacitor, resistor, diode) level.
Experience with Aircraft Condition Monitoring Systems (ACMS) and Aircraft Health Management (AHM) troubleshooting.
Background in customer and/or airline maintenance operations.
Leadership and/or project management experience.

Summary Pay Range:
Experienced (Level 3): $99,450 - $134,550
Senior (Level 4): $122,400 - $165,600
