This position will serve as an After-School Program Educator for Cornell Cooperative Extension of Broome County in support of the RootED 2 Program and will provide comprehensive 4-H youth development opportunities for youth in grades 2-5 in the Binghamton City School District. This position will provide established guidance and direction for program participants and after-school activities, including club and life skills. This position will provide instruction utilizing established 4-H curriculum in the areas of environmental science and natural resources, science, technology engineering, art/agriculture and math (STEAM). This position will utilize existing program resources and materials in program work, assist in the creation of program lesson plans, utilize a variety of delivery methods, and assist in delivering established innovative educational programs as assigned. This position will also provide staffing and/or programming coverage, as needed, for summer camps, and other scheduled association/program activities.
This position will serve as an Administrative Assistant for Cornell Cooperative Extension of Broome County and will provide support to the organization to include, but not limited to, answering and managing the phone system and related application, greeting and directing visitors, receiving program fees, database entry, dispersing mail, organizing files and storage and supply areas, updating documents, etc. Will provide administrative support to specific program areas, as needed. This position will represent Cornell Cooperative Extension to the general public, community leaders, and government officials in a professional manner.

POSITION DETAILS:
This position is a full-time, non-exempt position, 37.5 hours per week. The hourly rate for this position is $21.00. This position, based on eligibility, offers a comprehensive benefit package, to include: health and dental insurance, NYS retirement, vacation, sick and personal leave.

Required Qualifications:
- Associate’s Degree or equivalent education (GED/High School Diploma and 1 year transferrable/program experience).
- Experience relevant to the role of the position.
- Valid NYS Driver’s License and the ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.
- Ability to meet all School Age Child Care (SACC) and Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) licensing requirements (i.e. Tuberculosis Test, physical exam, training requirements).
- Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Course work in education, agriculture, animal science, natural resources, youth and or human development highly preferred.

Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
Program Responsibilities:
Program Delivery - 45%
- Utilizing already-established materials, serve as subject matter resource in the 4-H Youth Development areas, and provide standard responses.
- Teach a menu of existing educational programs and activities as defined in support of 4-H after-school programming efforts including, but not limited to: science, technology, engineering, art/agriculture and math (STEAM).
- Teach already-established 4-H Youth Development educational programing and activities in support of other 4-H Youth Development programming efforts as identified/needed to support the established 4-H Youth Development Program Area’s Plan of Work.
- Under the direction and oversight of the Director of RootED Afterschool Programs, apply established subject matter knowledge to assist in the creation of lesson plans as identified to deliver educational programs. Delivery methods include, but are not limited to: direct teaching, field programs/tours, workshops, newsletters, and the internet.
- Assist in providing established 4-H Youth Development educational programs via mass media.
- Via established program parameters, communicate and cooperate with school personnel to foster intentional instruction and to address the needs and interests of participating youth.
- Provide summer opportunities for the afterschool site, as well as participate in Cornell Cooperative Extension camps and activities.
- Work to foster acceptance of the 4-H Youth Development program, methods and policies while addressing community and individual needs and considering diverse audiences.
- Serve as a team member and cooperate with the entire Association and Youth and Family Development Program staff to achieve Association program delivery goals.
Administrative Responsibilities:
Direction and Management - 5%
- Give established guidance to volunteers and staff, including those performing similar work, as appropriate.
Coordination/Operation - 45%
- Collect evaluation and program needs assessment data from program participants based on existing framework.
- Maintain a high level of confidentiality of information and data collected.
- Under the direction of the Director of RootED Afterschool Programs, coordinate and assist with program projects and program outreach efforts as instructed per already established program parameters.
- Coordinate, compile and organize existing program resources and program materials.
- Compile, tally and format evaluation data from program participants based on existing framework.
- Provide input to Supervisor for program budget preparation and submit program expense reports.
- Provide administrative support for fund development activities as identified.
- Provide administrative assistance in the marketing and promotion of programming efforts to include, but not limited to: print media, news media, social media, and multi-media efforts.
- Provide administrative assistance in the completion of reports as required by the funding sources and/or the Association.
- Maintain record of class participants.
- Assist Director of RootED Afterschool Programs in coordination of volunteers to extend program implementation efforts.
- Effectively communicate with parents of school districts as needed to achieve program goals.
- Effectively maintain existing professional relationships with other agencies, organizations and businesses that promote effective communication and facilitate continued programming efforts.
- This program may require the transport of program participants and/or program materials and resources in performing position responsibilities.
- Answer telephones and assist or direct calls to appropriate persons and maintain/coordinate phone system for new and existing employees.
- Update and file documents while maintaining a filing system. Enter data in various computer programs or into online forms and/or systems.
- Greet and direct visitors.
- Disperse mail and maintain/coordinate US mail regulations.
- Provide assistance in printing.
- Perform other general office duties as needed/assigned.
Professional Improvement and Other Duties as Assigned - 5%
- Participate in required trainings.
- In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes in programming and association priorities.
- Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension including but not limited to attendance at staff meetings, timely reporting of expenses, working with other staff, general marketing of Extension programs and other duties as assigned.
