What this role is all about:
We are looking for a Small Packaging Set Up Technician on 2nd Shift in La Crosse, WI.
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 3:00 PM - 11:00 PM
The Canning Set Up Technician performs set up of Canning line equipment during changeovers and cleaning as needed during production. The Technician will assist in training other Canning line workers for set up tasks related to line and equipment required during changeover and cleaning.
The Technician would be responsible for small mechanical duties such as proximity switches, realigning conveyor chains, etc. Maintenance would be responsible for any major mechanical issues such as motors needing removal, mechanical overhaul of equipment, and electrical maintenance. Technicians will work with Supervisors and Leads to help troubleshoot issues and implement efficient, effective processes for changeovers and cleanings.
The Canning Set Up Technician will work independently of maintenance and production but very closely with both departments. This position assists in keeping the Canning lines running and in compliance with all rules and regulations by using safe methods of equipment set up/repair/upkeep.
Job Duties:
- Develop and implement efficient changeover and setup processes for all canning lines on all shifts by working with Supervisor and Line Lead to assist in training for all set up jobs on the Canning lines. This training will help provide depth in our crews to help with efficiency and knowledge of the equipment.
- Monitor the schedule and work with the Line Lead to make sure equipment and parts are ready for changeover to assist in the efficiency of Canning changeover timing.
- Changeover all equipment required for the next work order on the Canning lines.
- Assist Canning lines with any issues they are having during set up as well as after line start up.
- Monitor Canning lines equipment while running to ensure equipment is set up and performing as it should.
- Troubleshoot and fix issues that are set up related on the Canning lines during their shift. If Technician has tried all they know for their skill set they will contact maintenance to help troubleshoot and fix.
- Issues related to motors, equipment overhaul, and electrical would be considered a maintenance issue on the Canning lines.
- Work with maintenance to help assist in understanding what is happening when it is determined to be non-set up related issue on the Canning line.
- Be readily available for calls to assist Canning lines when they are having issues.
- Work with Supervisors and Line Leads to train other employees for Canning set up tasks they are deemed capable of.
- Work to establish uniformity in set up across all shifts for all Canning lines.
- Maintain communication with Production, Maintenance, other departments, management, and employees; notifying them of problems and/or concerns that may restrict production efficiency in Canning.
- Complete all paperwork in a clear, legible, and accurate format, including all required information and documentation in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s).
- Assist in maintaining parts and supplies inventory used in Small Packaging and communicate with maintenance or production when supplies are needed.
- Maintain a clean, sanitary, and safe work area, including the desk area.
- Adhere to Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS).
- Identify Critical Control Points (CCP).
- Work in a professional capacity that supports our Lead the Way environment.
- If timing permits, Technician may support the Pouching lines with vision system, and printers.
- This position uses a variety of hand tools provided by the company, and they must be kept according to GMP standards.
- Understand and adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices and Standard Operating Procedures.
- Safety Protocol:
- Stop and observe unsafe acts and obey facility safety rules and procedures.
- Correct or report any observed safety hazards.
- Support safety policies and programs.

Qualifications:
Education Required:
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Associate’s or Technical School Degree in Mechanics, Electrical, Computer Science or Food Processing preferred.
- An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered.
Experience Required:
- Minimum one (1) year of relevant experience in a food manufacturing environment preferred.
- Understanding of preventative maintenance programs required.
Certification/Licensure Required:
- First Responder training and certification.
- Electric Lift certification as appropriate.
