STATEMENT OF JOB
Working under the Engineered Systems Supervisor, the Blaster prepares a variety of  parts for painting by grit blasting by hose or machine. The company reserves the right to rotate employees to other departments or work assignments within the organization as needed based upon skill set, production needs, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS
Must be 18 years of age and have a HS Diploma or equivalent. This position requires continuous work with average to heavy weight materials. The position requires awkward bending and reaching on a frequent basis. The employee must possess a valid Tyco forklift license and must be a certified hoist operator. The position requires that the Blaster wear a positive pressure air supply respirator/hood when blasting parts. The employee stands approximately 80% of the work period.

  • Ability to recognize chemical hazardous labels.
  • Spill management and clean-up.
  • Air shutoff locations.
  • Capability to follow satellite accumulation rules and requirements.
  • Proficiency to recognize hazardous wastes in your area and manage properly.

DUTIES

Grit blasts tanks, skids, cylinder racks, hose reels, manifolds and other parts as required by directing flow of compressed air and steel grit on metal parts to remove scale, sand, paint, grease, tar, rust and dirt. Adjusts regulation of air on compressor, varies concentration of grit and selects appropriate nozzle to obtain required surface finish. Applies masking materials to protect areas not to be grit blasted and screw in plugs to protect threads. Keeps equipment clean to insure proper operation.  Performs some maintenance requiring disassembly of grit blasting equipment. Loads grit blaster tank with abrasive materials by manually lifting bags of steel grit and pouring contents into machine. Operates plate blaster by manually loading parts into the baskets and onto the rollers, setting proper cycle time. Unloads blasted parts from wheelabrator by hand into bins or unto pallets. Monitors electrical panel to assure proper operation of the plate blaster.  Troubleshoots in the event of malfunction. Performs minor maintenance such as sweeping us steel shot and checking pneumatic actuators.  Drives forklift to move products in and out of the area. Performs housekeeping and other related duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor. Must be willing to train the large blast booth.
