Internship Program Overview:

Our Interns are our talent pipeline for GF across the globe. Our goal is to provide students with meaningful work experience that will equip them with the skills to embark on a career in the fast-paced and growing semiconductor industry after graduation. As an intern at GF, you will experience one-on-one mentorship, work assignments that prioritize your growth and potential, professional development opportunities, and the chance to network with executives.

Project Title:

Defect reduction in Etch chambers

Project Objective:

This project addresses the physical sources of contamination and process variation and will help to reduce 'adders' (particles added during a specific step) in the Etch chamber by 40% through a revised preventive maintenance (PM) schedule and hardware shielding upgrades.

Project Outcome:

This project is expected to provide the intern with a comprehensive immersion into plasma physics and high-volume semiconductor manufacturing, enabling the development of advanced technical skills in plasma-surface interactions and etching processes such as Reactive Ion Etching (RIE). The intern will learn to apply Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Design of Experiments (DOE) for data-driven decision-making, while gaining practical familiarity with vacuum systems, gas delivery mechanisms, and equipment maintenance. Professionally, the experience aims to build confidence in navigating high-stakes environments where process changes have significant financial implications. For the company, anticipated benefits include reduced defect rates, cost savings from lower scrap and maintenance, improved throughput through increased tool uptime, and enhanced process stability via robust protocols. Additionally, the intern’s documentation and analysis are expected to serve as a valuable technical reference, strengthening the organization’s knowledge base and supporting future operational excellence.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Perform daily monitoring of defect trends using SPC charts to detect any “out-of-control” signals.

  • Use Atlas for particle map analysis.

  • Create and update Defect Pareto charts to rank the most frequent defect types.

  • Help the team focus on the “vital few” issues

  • Use software tools (e.g., JMP, Klarity) to correlate defect locations on wafer maps with electrical failures found during wafer-sort testing.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Perform all activities in a safe and responsible manner and support all Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements, and programs.

Required Qualifications:

Actively pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering/Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, /Material engineering or any other related field through an accredited degree program during the time of internship.

Preferred Qualifications:

Specialization in Manufacturing/Semiconductor related fields and Project management skills

*This application is for students undertaking a 20-24 week credit-bearing internship from June 2026 onwards.

*Please indicate your internship period clearly in your CV/Resume/Cover Letter*
