Job Description

The Assistant Bakery Manager performs all the essential duties of an experienced bakery clerk while also taking on vital leadership responsibilities. In this role, you must have the ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions effectively. You will be expected to ensure seamless department operations, including assuming the full responsibility of the Bakery Department Manager in their absence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the Department Manager in their absence, ensuring all standards are met.

  • Assign daily duties to the bakery team to maintain an efficient workflow.

  • Train new teammates on bakery operations, safety, and customer service standards.

  • Write daily orders and establish timelines for the production schedule.

  • Perform other duties as assigned at the discretion of store management.

  • Provide friendly, courteous, and prompt service to customers in person and on the phone.

  • Assist customers with product selections, including utilizing suggestive selling techniques.

  • Process customer requests, including ordering decorated cakes from the bakery plant.

  • Process incoming products from the bakery plant and direct store delivery vendors.

  • Bake cookies and ensure quality production across all goods.

  • Package fresh-baked products, as well as slice and wrap fresh-baked bread.

  • Receive, unload, and stock orders.

  • Stock product displays in cases and on shelves, ensuring they are full and visually appealing.

  • Follow inventory control procedures to ensure product accuracy.

  • Rotate products and straighten displays

  • Maintain strict adherence to all department and company safety guidelines.

  • Understand and practice proper sanitation procedures.

  • Perform constant cleaning of the work area and equipment throughout the shift.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum of six months of related bakery or retail experience.

  • Schedule: This is a full-time position requiring 40 hours per week. Flexible availability, including weekends, is highly important in our retail environment.

  • Reliability: Regular, reliable attendance is an essential function of the job.

  • Training: Ongoing training will be provided at the store level.

Physical Demands

To successfully perform the duties of this job, the teammate must be able to meet the following physical demands:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

  • Ability to work on your feet for the entire shift (8 hours).

  • Frequent bending and stooping.

Additional Requirements – Internal Candidates:

  • Store/Facility Teammates: minimum of six months employment with Schnucks preferred.
  • Store Support Center Teammates: minimum of one year employment with Schnucks preferred.
  • Must be in good standing (not on a performance improvement plan or active discipline).
  • If invited for an interview, must have manager approval based on performance.
