Program Description 

Blackstone's Summer Analyst Program is a 10-week in-person experience, offering participants extensive exposure across the firm. This program provides Summer Analysts with valuable guidance through mentorship, continuous feedback, technical and soft skill training, networking opportunities with professionals across the firm, and the unique chance to fully immerse themselves in Blackstone's culture. 

Job Description 

The position offers significant exposure to complex restructurings, stakeholder negotiations, control investing, and active ownership situations. The Summer Analyst Program will help you develop a differentiated skill set at the intersection of credit, private equity, and operations. 

Blackstone Credit & Insurance’s Asset Management group mobilizes resources to preserve investor capital and enhance investment returns in challenging situations. Once assets that are or could be challenged are identified, BXCI’s Asset Management team has dual responsibilities: 

  • The team focuses on the restructuring and re-underwriting of troubled or underperforming BXCI Private Credit Strategies (“PCS”) investments; working closely with equity owners including sponsors, management, creditors, and other stakeholders to preserve and enhance value through balance sheet restructurings, liquidity solutions, and interim credit relief amendments; and 

  • Where these processes result in BXCI assuming equity ownership, the role extends into the active ownership and management of a portfolio company, employing a private equity mindset. This includes developing and executing a value creation plan, and partnering with management teams and boards to drive strategic, operational, and financial initiatives, with the objective of maximizing exit outcomes and recoveries. 

Primary responsibilities will include:  

  • Assisting with the structuring and negotiation of restructuring transactions, including modeling and evaluating various types of deal structures 

  • Preparing investment memoranda, analyses (with significant emphasis on identifying root causes of underperformance), financial forecasts, and other ad-hoc requests to support real-time decision making related to existing investments 

  • Researching industry trends, competitive landscapes, and regulatory environments to inform strategic decision-making for control / significant minority equity positions 

  • Monitoring watch list credit positions, including building cash flow forecasts and delivering recurring updates on performance  

  • Monitoring existing equity positions, meeting with management teams of portfolio companies and attending board meetings  

  • Reporting on the progress of turnaround initiatives, providing regular updates to BXCI senior-level management on key financial metrics, operational milestones, and risk factors 

  • Partnering with portfolio company management teams to produce materials for quarterly watchlist reviews with the Blackstone executive team  

  • Reviewing credit agreements and other loan documentation, and assisting with the preparation of transaction documentation for active processes 

  • Thinking creatively about ways to optimize the team’s existing processes 

 

Qualifications: 

Blackstone seeks to hire individuals who work well in a team-driven working group, are highly motivated, intelligent, and have demonstrated excellence in prior endeavors. In addition to strong analytical and quantitative skills, a successful candidate will meet the following qualifications: 

  • Prior experience in finance, investment banking, restructuring, or consulting preferred 

  • Strong interest in restructuring 

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal 

  • Strong performance under pressure in a lean team environment 

  • Highly organized, with the initiative to multitask and work with limited supervision as a member of a team 

  • Strong accounting and financial modeling skills; past experience modeling and evaluating transactions is preferred but not required 

  • Excellent technical proficiency in Excel 

  • Prior experience preparing presentation materials using PowerPoint 

  • Excellent attention to detail and good professional judgment  

  • Resourcefulness, intellectual curiosity, and strong work ethic

Expected annual base salary range:

$110,000 - $110,000

Actual base salary within that range will be determined by several components including but not limited to the individual's experience, skills, qualifications and job location. For roles located outside of the US, please disregard the posted salary bands as these roles will follow a separate compensation process based on local market comparables.

Additional compensation: Base salary does not include other forms of compensation or benefits offered in connection with the advertised role.
