Overview:
Participates in training programs hosted by the Tech Academy designed to develop entry-level technical skills across a variety of technology disciplines. After completion of these training programs, a Technology Apprentice will move into career-track roles in a specific technology domain.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Complete a comprehensive training program to develop entry-level technical skills in a specific technical discipline such as Software Engineering, Infrastructure, Cybersecurity, or Data & Analytics
- Work alongside a mentor to complete on-the-job training over a set time frame to gain a broader understanding of their technology discipline, how specific technologies are utilized at the Bank, and how those technologies work together to deliver solutions and services to internal and external customers
- Participate in projects and department initiatives that accelerate career growth and further develops interpersonal, communication, and time-management skills
- Gain exposure to technology concepts through guest speakers and industry leaders and a built-in network with peers
- Develop technology and career skills to solidify post-program deployment assignment in one of the Technology domains based on assessment, performance, and interest
- Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies, and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
- Promote an environment that supports engagement and belonging and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
- Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
- Complete other related duties as assigned.
Scope of Responsibilities:
The Technology Apprentice participates in a comprehensive training program designed to launch the candidate’s career in a technology-related field. The Program offers a combination of career planning, technical and competency-based training, and mentorship activities to prepare incumbents for a successful career in Technology.

Education and Experience Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Successful completion or enrollment of a Bank approved technology skills development program
- Proficiency with personal computers and knowledge of pertinent spreadsheet, word processing, database, presentation, and email software
- Demonstrated ability to learn new technical skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Proven interpersonal skills
- Detail oriented
- Proven organizational and time management skills
Education and Experience Preferred:
- Associate’s degree in Computer Science or Information Technology related field
- Advanced coursework in a technology discipline
- Strong analytical skills
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Exposure to development tools, application support software and hardware platforms
- Prior experience handling multiple tasks in support of various assignments
