Join Personal & Commercial Operations (PCO) and be part of the national team that enables operations across RBC in Canada. Our student placements offer hands-on experience and meaningful work while contributing to initiatives that improve efficiency, strengthen controls, and enhance the client experience.

The National Office Non-Technical stream provides exposure to operations, process improvement, risk management, and client service support across PCO. Students will work with operational teams to support business processes, documentation, workflow analysis, reporting, and key strategic or risk-related activities. This placement builds foundational business, analytical, and communication skills while contributing to initiatives that improve efficiency and strengthen controls.

Potential Placements:

  • Personal Banking Operations (PBO) is accountable for end-to-end retail product operations covering banking, investments, loyalty, and financing products to support hyper-personalized client experiences and supporting branch operations in managing operational risk and complexity
  • Commercial Banking Operations (CBO) provides end-to-end support for business lending and non-lending products including treasury cash management, commercial cards, and private banking enabling service transformation, improved client experience and business growth
  • Credit and Fraud Management (CFM) protects clients, employees, and the firm from fraud, helps recover and minimize credit losses, and leverages strategies and analytics to stay ahead of emerging trends and threats
  • Operational Risk ensures proactive risk management and elevates the resilience of both Personal Banking and Commercial Banking through the execution of risk assessments, testing and monitoring, and controls
  • Operational Effectiveness optimizes the client experience by reimagining and transforming processes, advancing operations through digitization and automation and supporting workforce productivity and efficiency
  • Operational Data, Information and AI aggregates data into an authoritative source of information, delivers actionable insights to inform strategic and tactical decisions and drives the advancement of data products and AI capabilities
  • Operations Strategy and Business Management drives a client-centric strategy across PCO while ensuring connectivity with partners, executing on key strategic priorities, managing investment portfolios, and leading employee engagement

What will you do?

Depending on your placement, you may:

  • Support operational or process improvement projects.
  • Document and analyze workflows or controls.
  • Develop reports, dashboards, or communications for internal stakeholders.
  • Participate in risk testing or compliance activities.
  • Collaborate with teams to deliver on key strategic priorities.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have:

  • Currently enrolled in a post-secondary (university/college) in Business, Commerce, Economics, or a related discipline.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to learn new systems and processes quickly with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively in an on-site, team-oriented environment with occasional remote work as required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office or equivalent tools.
  • Available to work a 7.5-hour day, Monday to Friday, with hours varying between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., depending on business requirements and team schedules.

Nice-to-have (varies by placement):

  • Interest in risk management. operations, or process improvement.
  • Familiarity with data tools such as Excel, Power BI, or Tableau.
  • Proficiency with PowerPoint for creating presentations and communicating insights.
  • Bilingualism (English/French) written and spoken.

Please note:

  • This is a primarily in-person role. Remote-only arrangements may be available for select positions based on team and business needs.
  • To be eligible for these student positions, you must either:
    • Be returning back to school after the work term end-date; or
    • If you are not returning back to school (i.e. are graduating immediately after the work term), you must require the full work term as a mandatory component to graduate successfully.
