Join Personal & Commercial Operations (PCO) and be part of the national team that enables operations across RBC in Canada. Our student placements offer hands-on experience and meaningful work while contributing to initiatives that improve efficiency, strengthen controls, and enhance the client experience.
Commercial Banking Operations (CBO) provides end-to-end support for business lending and non-lending products including operating lines, term loans, mortgages, commercial cards, and cash management services. Students will support core processing activities such as loan funding, documentation preparation, servicing requests, queue management, and commercial account maintenance. This placement builds strong operational, documentation, and risk-awareness skills while enabling accurate, timely service for Business Banking Clients.
Potential Placements - CBO Centre Teams:
- CSBFL Advance - Supports government-guaranteed lending programs - Canada Small Business Financing Loans (CSBFL) and Canadian Agriculture Loan Act (CALA) by reviewing invoices, verifying documentation, and working directly with clients to resolve out-of-order situations and validate vendor information.
- Liability Team - Processes advances and maintains commercial lending products including mortgages, operating lines, and term loans. Handles loan changes, investigates chargebacks/unpostables, and supports Special Loans (SLAS) maintenance.
- Queue Manager - Reviews New Money and Maintenance requests and loads approved Commercial Credit Requests (CCR) into Odyssey. Assigns work to appropriate queues and clarifies transaction details with partners as needed.
- Commercial Documentation Preparation - Prepares Credit Agreements and security documents based on approved CCRs. Ensures accuracy, appropriate wording, and complete documentation to support commercial credit fulfillment.
- Small Business Advance - Handles advances for Small Business Market clients including Anti-Money Laundering (AML) checks, document verification, searches/registrations, and funding. Supports a range of files including credit cards, operating lines, Letter of Credit (LC) / Letter of Guarantee (LG), Black Entrepreneur Business Loan (BEBL) / Business Accelerator Loan Program (BALP), and lawyer closings.
- Term Loans Team - Supports renewals and maintenance of term lending products. Prepares renewal documentation, reviews Revolving Funds Arrangement (RFA) fluctuation reports, and maintains Cost of Borrowing (COB) account connections to ensure accurate total exposure.
- Commercial Servicing Advisors - Supports commercial clients with servicing needs including day-to-day banking inquiries, fund transfers, account maintenance, card servicing, supply orders, and RBC Express maintenance.
- Operations & Resolutions - SSG - Supports deposit account maintenance for senior commercial clients including interest setup, account opening/closing, investigations, balance transfers, reporting, and adjustments.
What will you do?
Depending on your placement, you may:
- Support client and internally originated requests in an accurate and timely manner.
- Deliver excellent service every time by focusing on what is best for our clients and the organization - making work Simpler, Faster, Better.
- Process work volumes proactively and adapt to changing priorities while meeting established Client Service Commitment timelines.
- Exercise due diligence by following commercial credit, operational risk, and documentation standards.
- Take ownership of commercial transactions at the first point of contact, resolving issues where possible and escalating according to established protocols.
- Utilize multiple RBC systems to ensure quality, accuracy, and completeness of commercial documentation, account servicing, and transaction requests.
What do you need to succeed?
Must-have:
- Currently enrolled in a post-secondary (university/college) program in any discipline.
- Strong communication, organizational, and analytical skills.
- Ability to learn new systems and processes quickly with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively in an on-site, team-oriented environment with occasional remote work as required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office or equivalent tools.
- Available to work a 7.5-hour day, Monday to Friday, with hours varying between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., depending on business requirements and team schedules.
Nice-to-have:
- Interest in operations, service delivery, or financial services.
- Familiarity with Excel, PowerPoint, or documentation tools.
- Previous exposure to RBC systems or operational environments.
- Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset.

- This is a primarily in-person role. Remote-only arrangements may be available for select positions based on team and business needs.
- To be eligible for these student positions, you must either:
- Be returning back to school after the work term end-date; or
- If you are not returning back to school (i.e. are graduating immediately after the work term), you must require the full work term as a mandatory component to graduate successfully.
