2026 Summer Intern – Systems Engineering

Department Summary
The Next Generation Advanced Staining, Architecture and Material Compatibility group - consisting of 16 employees - is focused on the technical support and leadership of product definition predominantly within the development of technically complex new product initiatives. The department is based within the Pathology Lab Development division of Roche Diagnostics. The roles in this group have a strong technical & scientific focus in areas of Business Domain, Requirements Engineering, Product Definition, System Architecture & Material Compatibility.
This internship position is located in Tucson, on-site.
The Opportunity
Learn & apply concepts in the design and development of complex advanced staining systems.
Learn systems engineering core principles around Requirements, Risk Management, Architecture and Model Based Systems Engineering.
Requirements elicitation and checking for completeness of requirements.
Apply complex problem-solving methodologies to technical issues identified within projects.
Support and organize project workshops.
Program Highlights
Intensive 12-weeks full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship
Program start dates are in May/June 2026.
A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.
Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.
Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry.
Who You Are:
Required Education
You meet one of the following criteria:
Must be pursuing a Bachelor's Degree (enrolled student).
Must be pursuing a Master's Degree (enrolled student).
Must be pursuing a PhD (enrolled student).
Required Majors: Engineering degree (Mechanical, Chemical, Biomedical, Systems or equivalent).
Required Skills:
Entry level; prior internship or coursework in engineering.
Understanding of basic engineering techniques and principle.
Ability to follow detailed directions and learn from supervision.
An interest in increasing quality and promoting a "Quality First Time" mindset.
Developing technically complex systems.
Problem solving both individually and in teams.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications:
Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

High degree of flexibility and proactiveness.
Familiarity with core systems engineering concepts.
Familiarity with Model-Based Systems Engineering tools & techniques.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of Arizona is $23.00 - $44.00 per hour. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
