2026 Summer Intern - Biology Research | AI Development
Department Summary
Biology Research | AI Development (BRAID) is a department within Genentech’s Research and Early Development (gRED) group. Our mission is to advance biological discovery by developing and applying AI/ML methods across diverse data modalities to support drug and target discovery efforts, with the ultimate goal of improving human health.
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated research intern to join the Perturbation Biology group within BRAID. Our group is dedicated to developing the next generation of AI/ML models to derive actionable insights from large-scale, high-content perturbation experiments. The internship will focus on designing strategies to integrate single-cell perturbation data, biological foundation models, and large language models to generate causal insights for drug and/or target discovery.
This internship position is located in South San Francisco, on-site.
The Opportunity:
Develop and apply state-of-the-art machine learning frameworks to extract therapeutically relevant insights from high-content perturbation screens and biological foundation models.
Work on a variety of data modalities, including single-cell omics data, text, and molecular structures.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary and cross-functional teams including machine learning researchers, biologists, chemists, and other stakeholders.
Program Highlights
Intensive 12 weeks, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship.
Program start dates are in May/June (Summer)
A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.
