Design and User experience expert for Nilfisk

We are looking for a designer with a strong background on user experience design to reinforce our ambitious team in driving truly customer centric product and solution innovation.

You will be joining a dedicated, multidisciplinary senior profile team influencing, facilitating, developing product and solution innovation- from early insights discovery to launch and beyond.

The team is located in Denmark and China. In our HQ based in Copenhagen the team consists of one experienced industrial designer to whom you will report to, one insights expert and the Head of Insights, Innovation and Industrial Design. You will be located together with a CMF specialist supervisor, colleagues in R&D and Product Management in our offices in Dongguan. This will be an advantage in your daily collaboration with key stakeholders.

 

Your new job

As our new Designer and user experience expert, you will play a key role in defining and implementing UX and ID principles into our various range of products. You will follow and strengthen existing Nilfisk design principles and guidelines.

You will be responsible for shaping Nilfisk UX and design experiences across our range of professional cleaning machines — including floor scrubbers, vacuum cleaners, and high-pressure washers — as well as our digital service offerings, like fleet management tools.

Your role will be to drive user centered design bridging UI, interaction and task efficiency in both physical products and digital offerings to ensure we deliver consistently great experiences to a group of very diverse real-world users in a wide variety of industries and sectors around the world.

Your role

Collaborate on User Research to drive insights-led UX design

  • To utilize user personas, journey maps, task analysis, workflow mapping and use case scenarios to qualify design decisions

  • Create concepting and prototype tests to validate real-world performance

  • Translate user feedback and insights into experience strategies, actionable design requirements and directions and the development of concepts, prototypes and final solutions.

Develop UX and design principles and drive end-to-end UX and Design outcomes

·       Develop and implement coherent and consistent UX principles across both physical cleaning machines and connected digital tools, like fleet management

·       Define user interactions, workflow and behaviors across mechanical, digital, and hybrid interfaces.

·       Collaborate with industrial designers to ensure UX principles and perspectives are integrated in the design for user journey phases of: Setup, operation, maintenance, and storage phases of user journeys.

·       Collaborate with industrial designers and engineers to ensure controls, buttons, indicators, and displays are intuitive and accessible — even under challenging conditions (gloves, wet surfaces, noisy environments etc.).

·       Provide close sparring and guidance for our external design partners to ensure smooth collaboration processes and adherence to Nilfisk UX design principles and guidelines

Communicating UX and design

·       Promote and drive learning sessions on Nilfisk UX and design principles, design guidelines, and usability benchmarks as an integrated part of our overall design principles and guidelines.

·       Create and present journey maps, interaction diagrams, wireframes, low-fidelity UI concepts, and behavior specifications to project teams and other key stakeholders.

Drive Prototyping & Testing

·       Contribute to building and testing physical or hybrid prototypes to evaluate usability and workflow performance together with R&D and software/firmware specialists

·       Plan and run usability tests together with your insights colleagues to gather and learn from user and stakeholder feedback to validate assumptions, identify key focus areas for improvement and qualify further iterations of designs.

·       You will be expected to keep yourself updated on the pulse on emerging UX design trends to continually inspire your work, creating relevant and forward-thinking designs that resonate with users and elevate the Nilfisk brand identity

We value the experience you bring

We imagine that you have a bachelor’s or Master’s degree in UX Design, Human-Centered Design, Industrial Design, Product design, Innovation or related fields – and bring 5+ years of experience in a design agency or corporate design function.

We expect you to have a strong foundation in user-centered design, innovation, and strategic application of design solutions.

As your scope of work will cover both physical machine and digital service tools UX, the ideal candidate has experience within both fields.

As you will be working with multidisciplinary teams with a mix of professional cultures, excellent stakeholder management, collaboration and communication skills will be a must for you.

User-Centered Design Thinking

·       You have a strong drive and desire for creating and advocating human-centric design

·       You have a good understanding of human behavior and ergonomics - including aspects such as reach zones, motion, posture, strain, anthropometry/user variability and cognitive load

·       You are knowledgeable about cognitive psychology & decision design aspects that will enable you to understand what affects attention, memory, perception and cognitive load in physical and digital interfaces

·       You are used to working insights based. Understanding and basing your work on real-world user needs will be fundamental for your job.

UX design experience and skills

·       Hands-on experience with physical UX and workflow design – for example appliances, power tools, industrial equipment or equivalent.

·       Hands-on experience with digital UX and workflow design – for example apps or connected service tools.

·       Experience designing control panels and UI.

·       Knowledge and experience of the use of iconography and labeling

·       Designing feedback systems (audio, visual, haptic)

·       Experience with rapid prototyping methods (low-fidelity, physical mockups, rapid iteration).

·       Proficient in tools such as Figma (including design system maintenance/ library management), Adobe XD, Miro, or similar

Conceptual Thinking

·       You can generate innovative ideas that help solve problems and drive value for real-world users.

·       You can visualize, sketch, and articulate design concepts quickly

Communicative skills

·       You are able to communicate design intent and appearance quality standards with engineering, manufacturing, and coordinate with suppliers as necessary

·       Your English skills and confidence are at a level where you can communicate design ideas, concepts and complex technical details, so they are understandable to multi-disciplinary teams.

Tools we expect you to know

  • Figma / Adobe XD / Sketch (for interface mockups)

  • Miro / FigJam / Lucidchart (journey mapping, flowcharts)

  • 3D prototyping tools (Rhino, basic CAD, paper/foam models)
