What you’ll do
We are looking for a Director of Engineering to join the Practice Operations team in Engineering.
As a Director of Engineering, your mission will be to lead the transformation of how healthcare professionals manage their daily operations. You will empower teams building solutions that streamline user management, document handling, patient check-in, and doctor task management—directly improving the daily lives of 420,000 healthcare professionals and 90 million patients across Europe.
Working in the tech team at Doctolib involves building innovative products and features to improve the daily lives of care teams and patients. We work in feature teams in an agile environment, while collaborating with product, design, and business teams.
Your key missions & expected impact
Your responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Lead and manage 3 Engineering Teams based in Berlin, owning crucial scopes: user management, document management, check-in processes, patient admission, patient intake and doctor task management. Champion organizational excellence by optimizing team efficiency, eliminating blockers, and accelerating delivery across all three teams.
- Define and execute the “North Star” technical strategy in partnership with the product team, making bold decisions that balance ambitious innovation with pragmatic execution. Accelerate the modernization from Ruby on Rails monolith to multi-service architecture while maintaining zero downtime and operational excellence.
- Drive transformational change across the Practice Operations domain by taking end-to-end ownership of large-scale programs that reshape how systems are built and operated. We have several Tech Transformation programs we are contributing for and we have to ensure collaboration is top notch across all teams, streams and domains.
Who you are
- Proven engineering leadership experience: You bring at least 12+ years of engineering and technical leadership experience, with significant time managing managers and senior individual contributors in fast-paced, high-growth technology and international environments.
- Strategic technology visionary: You have a deep understanding of company goals, competitive landscapes, and technological trends, with a track record of developing technology roadmaps that drive business success and influence product strategy.
- Master of leadership styles: You deliberately deploy different leadership approaches based on context and need, knowing when to be hands-on versus hands-off, when to coach versus direct, and how to empower teams while providing necessary guardrails.
- Domain expertise builder: You develop groundbreaking strategic visions of industry domains and nurture deep domain knowledge within your organization, guiding teams to understand users, workflows, and product purpose.
- Execution-focused: You're accountable for execution across an entire stream, taking ownership of critical programs and transformations across multiple teams and functions, with proven ability to deliver complex projects on time while maintaining quality standards.
- People development champion: You serve as a visionary leader in talent development, creating strategic initiatives that foster continuous growth, actively mentoring other managers, and leveraging data-driven insights to improve organizational approaches to people development.
Bonus Points If You Have…
- Healthcare or regulated industry experience: You've navigated the complexities of building technology in healthcare or financial services.
