Specialists in providing engineered above ground drainage and water supply systems, Polypipe Building Services leverages offsite fabrication to design and deliver solutions to mechanical and public health engineers, M&E contractors as well as local authorities. Polypipe Building Services houses well-known industry brand Terrain and has been delivering systems to commercial, high rise residential, healthcare, education and leisure projects for over 50 years.

🧪 The Opportunity 

The successful candidate will be part of the team to provide engineering and specialist support to repair, maintain and improve automation, mechanical, electrical and electronic equipment in all our production areas including the running of projects.

The successful candidate will gain market leading experience in skills highly sought after in the industry.

You won’t be stuck making tea or quietly shadowing. From day one, you’ll be embedded in our Innovation team, contributing to fault finding, optimisation, and maintenance of our current automation systems and processes whilst also supporting the team in identifying and managing new automation projects. 

Expect to get hands-on, ask questions, and help solve real automation and manufacturing challenges. 

You’ll get to: 

  • Provide technical support for all aspects of automation fault finding and improvement.

  • Support planned maintenance of automation with engineering and external resources.

  • Support the Automation Project Engineer in the research and development into site wide automation possibilities and participate in automation project teams.

  • Journaling the internship experience. 

🎯 What we’re looking for 

  • You’re currently studying for a B.Eng or M.Eng in Engineering, Robotics, Electronics Engineering or Computer Science (or something closely related)

  • You’ve got a solid grasp of engineering principles and concepts, and you’re keen to apply them.

  • You’ve got some basic Programming knowledge (of any language).

  • You’ve dabbled in electromechanical projects, whether through coursework, hobbies, or tinkering with.

  • You’re ready to commit to the full duration of the internship 

  • You’re a clear communicator, a team player, and someone who contributes meaningfully to group projects 

  • You’ve got the makings of a great problem-solver - analytical, curious, and willing to roll up your sleeves 

  • You care about doing things better: optimising and improving processes, and building with sustainability in mind
