What you will do:

Develops welding techniques, procedures, and application of welding equipment (manual and robotic) to problems involving fabrication of metals by performing the following duties.

How you will do it:

  • Conducts research and development investigations to develop and test new fabrication processes and procedures, improve existing or develop new welding equipment, develop new or modify current welding methods, techniques, and procedures, discover new patterns of welding phenomena, or to correlate and substantiate hypotheses.

  • Prepares technical reports as result of research and development and preventive maintenance investigations.

  • Establishes welding procedures to guide production and welding personnel relating to specification restrictions, material processes, pre- and post-heating requirements which involve use of complex alloys, unusual fabrication methods, welding of critical joints, and complex post heating requirements.

  • Evaluates new developments in welding field for possible application to current welding problems or production processes. Including robotics.

  • Directs, trains, and coordinates technical personnel in performing inspections to ensure workers' compliance with established welding procedures, restrictions, and standards; in testing welds for conformance with national code requirements; or testing welding personnel for certification.

  • Contacts personnel of other agencies, engineering personnel, or clients to exchange ideas, information, or offer technical advice concerning welding matters.

  • Performs experimental welding to evaluate new equipment, techniques, and materials.

  • Other duties may be assigned.

  • Defines, justifies and implements capital projects.

  • Defines operational process sequences, production facilities and layouts, tooling and fixtures, establishes labor time standards.

  • Review, understand and analyze product costing deviations and develop action plans for improvement.

  • Must be able to perform and participate in a team environment.

  • Supports Lean Manufacturing, 5S activities and Kaizen events

  • Adheres to the Company’s Code of Conduct and Business Ethics standards.

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent with four to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Knowledge of formal problem solving methods along with experience with financial controls and product costing.

  • Working knowledge of lean manufacturing practices and procedures

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite Applications (Word, Excel, Access, & PowerPoint) as well as Internet software and E-mail is required.

  • Possesses technical process knowledge on automating weld techniques to conform to ASME standards

  • The employee is occasionally required to lift up to 40 pounds.

  • Must be able to travel up to 10% of time.

  • Where legally permissible, you further will be required upon commencement of employment to indicate your vaccination status as it relates to the COVID-19 vaccine by providing your indication in the vaccination tracking tool.

Certifications

  • American Welding Society (AWS) Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) or equivalent preferred.

Preferred:

  • Robotics experience.

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $76,000-107,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, location and alignment with market data.)
