EMPLOYMENT RELATIONSHIP: Just cause subject to probationary period

CURRENT HOURS AND STARTING TIME: Full-time (37.5 hours per week) position. The starting time for this position is currently 8:00 a.m. 

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under supervision, inspects the condition of the sewer interceptors, force mains, sanitary manholes, sewage flow meters, sanitary and storm water pump stations, air and vacuum relief systems and ancillary facilities.  Performs operation and maintenance tasks, carries out minor repairs, monitors the functioning of pump stations and other facilities and equipment.  Inspects the work of subcontractors and vendors, prepares written reports and verbal reports to supervisors, performs general landscaping duties and facility operation and maintenance tasks. Utilizes county and/or department specific software to complete assignments.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Inspects the condition of components of the wastewater and storm water pumping systems under the jurisdiction of the Macomb County Public Works Commissioner, including sewer interceptors, force mains, sanitary manholes, sewage flow meters, sanitary and stormwater pump stations and ancillary facilities.

Performs operation and maintenance tasks on sewer interceptors, sanitary manholes, sewage flowmeters, sanitary and storm water pump stations and ancillary facilities.

Provides support with operational problems, equipment emergencies, widespread storms, power outages and other operations and maintenance emergencies as deemed necessary by management as required.

Completes assigned repairs and upgrades to system equipment and facilities.

Monitors the operation of system equipment and facilities.

Performs general landscaping duties and facility operation and maintenance tasks.

Prepares and presents written, verbal and special reports as necessary.

Monitors the work of subcontractors and vendors.

Operates a county vehicle and equipment such as trucks, large scale lawn mowers, woodchippers and off-road vehicles while performing assigned job duties.

Operates an automobile to perform assigned job functions.  


Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Education and Experience

  • Possession of a high school diploma or a certificate of successful completion of the General Educational Development Test

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Experience in operating sanitary/storm water pumps or similar mechanical repair experience

  • Previous experience in the construction field

Required Licenses or Certifications

  • Possession of a valid Michigan driver’s license and operable, insured automobile for authorized travel
